  1. Yes it is feasible. Is it pleasant? Probably not on a daily basis, but if you were a 3 day a week commuter and worked from home some days, it would give you a great lifestyle. BB
  2. Well here's a brief intro! http://www.mainstreet3195.com/ www.mordyhq.com.au www.thebaymordialloc.com.au www.doylesbridgehotel.com.au http://www.mordycellardoor.com.au/mordy/Home.html http://mordysupperclub.com.au/ BB
  3. I would suggest offering an AirBnB host a lower rate for a long term booking. BB
  4. Big4 caravan park is OK but is a bit like camping, which may lose its appeal after a week or so. BB
  5. Thanks very much for the recommendation - I haven't heard from the OP (and we are in fact booked right now) so I'm guessing they found something else. BB
  6. Most people who stay in our short-term accommodation stay 4 weeks and generally find a house in that time. We have had people who have booked for only 2 weeks and then been forced to accept the first house they find, which wasn't really the one they would have liked. BB
  7. PMd you with information on an option. BB
  8. Hi we live slap bang in the middle of your search area. Best kindys around us are Elonera, Mordialloc and the brand new Parkdale hub one. Mordialloc has also just been completely rebuilt. Don't worry about her starting school in 2019. She will not be the oldest in her class - probably in the middle. Kids here don't start school often until they are almost 6, and kids that start young sometimes get left behind. BB

    Help!

No. Her visa is not related to his. She may be able to apply for a visa if she can prove they have been living together as if they were husband and wife for over a year. See this website for more details - http://www.border.gov.au/about/corporate/information/fact-sheets/35relationship BB

    Help!

It probably means their initial Permanent residency was due to expire by April. If you are living in Australia when it expires, you can stay. If you are not, you have to re-apply. BB
  11. Hi - most people who stay with us in our temp accommodation stay for 4 weeks and they usually find a rental which can be moved into within that period. BB

    Help!

Still doesn't make sense. If the daughter is already in Australia then why the concern about WHV "how long it takes to process and the financial requirements"? I think the concern is the daughter is applying for a new visa on the back of the boyfriend's one eg some kind of de facto visa. Need more info. BB

    Help!

Your post doesn't make sense. Is your daughter applying for permanent residency? You talk about processing times for the visa but which visa do you mean? BB
  14. The "skills shortage" list and the "jobs available in the real world" list correlate inversely. BB
  15. We've lived in Parkdale for 9 years. Our address is actually Mordialloc but we are right on the border so our kids go to school in Parkdale, most of our friends live there and we shop there. It is a fantastic suburb for families with an incredible number of facilities, great primary and secondary schools, community centre, swimming pool, beaches etc etc etc. It is getting very pricey though. Nowadays you don't get much change out of $1 million for a family home. BB
  16. Thanks Marisa for the recommendation - we are currently almost completely booked out until Easter though! BB
  17. This is not my experience of architects. My experience is you give them a budget and they design a house that you can never afford to build. Fortunately VCAT took my side in the ensuing legals. BB
  18. This is hard to do as project builders do not release plans until you have signed up with them. BB
  19. Bright would be nice for anyone who is comfortable living a rural life. The people there would be used to newcomers - the very successful Bright Brewery is owned by 2 people who used to work in IT software in Melbourne I think. The ski resorts are a short drive and the area is stunning in summer. If you have been in London all your life and fancy a change - then why not? Having said that I reckon that the areas around Frankston are semi-rural and might offer you a great combination of the convenience of a nearby major city with rural living. Personally having lived in London for 20 years, Bright would have been too rural for me to live. BB
  20. We stayed at the Siloso Beach resort on Sentosa island. Less than half the price of the Shangri La, biggest swimming pool and waterfall we have ever seen in a city hotel, great buffet breakfast and probably the cheapest restaurant on the island. Right on the beach. The rooms need updating a little but I have stayed in considerably worse. BB
  21. Mornington would tick all your boxes I reckon. BB
  22. I built my house on a steel frame, let me know if you have any questions. BB
  23. We built our own house ourselves (having never done building before) and I now lecture to future Owner Builders on a course here in Melbourne. I strongly recommend against using an architect, use a draftsman. 1/10th of the price and you get a design that works, as opposed to just a design that inflates the architect's own ego. BB
