  1. We arrived in Perth in July 2006 and I couldn't believe how beautiful the winter weather was, my children were swimming in the sea and the sky was blue. Their teacher thought we were mad because we were using the pool and wearing summer clothes. BUT the temperature inside the 2 houses we stayed in was baltic, shorts during the day and shivering in the house at night. After living in Scotland for years i thought I was used to cold weather but central heating is brilliant and makes all the difference. Our house we rented didn't have heating and we had to all sit under a duvet on the settee at night, it was difficult to get up in the morning because it was freezing. So I have sympathy for both sides, the weather is great in Oz and loads of beautiful weather all year round but absolutely bitterly cold in the winter inside some homes.
  2. when we arrived in july 2005 we couldn't believe how gorgeous the weather was, it was about 20 degrees during the day and sunny. My chidren were in the pool and the sea, their teacher thought this was hysterical. Despite the weather being lovely the house was freezing at night and we used to sit in the living room with covers over us. When we left the next july the weather was gorgeous, 25 degrees and sunny, i was still wearing shorts etc and when i was shopping someone in the queue behind me were saying how cold it was and how they were cooking winter stews!! it was summer to me (being Scottish!) Apparently the weather got really wet after we left but we were very lucky
  3. I used to be a person who was a bit obsessed about the British weather and how rubbish it is, but when we lived in Oz and then returned to the uk for family reasons my priorities were put in order. My priorities are now totally different, people are definitely more important than places. I still love Australia but can now see the positives about the uk. We had a great holiday in Cornwall this year and could also imagine living there. I work in intensive care and everyday I am reminded about how important simple things are.
  4. I think you get fat children in both countries but when we moved to Perth in 2005 I was so shocked about how many fast food places there were everywhere in Oz. There seemed to be so many more mcdonalds. chicken treats and kfc compared to the uk. My 4 sons are sporty but my oldest son got a bit heavier there compared to here in Edinburgh because they play outside all the time here despite the weather.
