  1. WOW Thank you for ALL the responses. Someone (I cant remember who - sorry!) said something that stuck - how long has it taken to achieve your current lifestyle, friends etc, cos it'll take that long again to basically re establish your life on the other side of the world. My baby has just in the last couple of weeks, developed health problems, and i think i underestimated the fact I have family living so close to me, and to leave that....... So oz is on hold for now. But i really enjoy coming on this website to read other peoples thoughts!!! thank you again to each and every one of you who have shared!!!!
  2. Hi, not sure if we are being naive or looking through rose tinted specs, so maybe someone can enlighten us! We are a married couple with 2 young children in UK. I am a part time nurse on about £17k and my husband is a chemist on £28 k. We just about get to zero each month after all our outgoings and believe me, we are not living a flamboyant life!!! No take aways, weekends away etc! Our thoughts about moving down under.....we want a more outdoor life..to be able to plan your weekend activities without wondering what the weather will be like. Our salaries in melbourne would equate to about 120k aus dollars. Which initially we thought too good to be true! But upon looking at cost of living etc would we really be much better off?? Ideally we Love the idea of a swimming pool, bbqs all the time etc but is this reality? Do people really have the life that is portrayed on tv?! Or is it a case of the grass is never greener?! Look forward to all the responses!!!
  3. Just saw the other replies there - thank you!!!!
  4. If thats the case that they buy 15-20 pc below market price, how does that solve your negative equity problems? Am i being stupid here? I just dont understand!
  5. Hi, On considering our move to australia, we have come across several companies who offer to buy your house, even though it is in negative equity. We are about 10k neg equity on our house Has anyone used these companies and if so, are they safe?! thank you kate
  6. Hi My husband and I are considering a move to melbourne (as that is where all my dad's family live):unsure: with our two young children (3 years and 8month), and we are looking at all our options. I am a nurse and he is a chemist so, from what i can see on the occupations in demand, we should both be able to find work ok. The question i want to ask, is how did everyone manage to afford a move down under? I may be assuming wrongly, but i am guessing not everyone who has moved to australia had thousands upon thousands saved, and no negative equity on their house! We have about 10k neg equity on our house - and limited savings. How do people afford the big move!!! Sorry if this is a daft question but we are racking our brains trying to work out how everyone manages to do it!! Thank you for reading! Kate
  7. Hi all, i have been on this computer for 6 hours now researching a move down under and am a little bit stuck! I am a 28year old nurse and my husband is a 34 analytical chemist. We have 2 children 3year old and 7month old. All my dads family live in melbourne and we are researching in the hope of maybe emigrating. We want a better lifestyle and a more outdoorsy life for us and the kids. So this brings me onto......visas! I understand you can get sponsored visa for nurses but then you must work full time for 2 or so years. At the minute in UK i work 25hrs (part time) because i don't want to work FT cos of the children. My husband works full time and so we are thinking along the lines of going for a 175 visa so we are under no obligation. The thought of being fired on a sponsored visa sounds a bit too risky! If my husband got a 175 visa, can we all go to australia on this? And if so (which i think is right), am i able to eventually start working part time once we get the kids settled etc, or would i need a separate visa? I REALLY dont want to go and for us both to immediately start work as want to make sure children are ok first. I don't mind if hubby works quickly as we would need the money. This is such head melting stuff!!! Thank you so much for reading this and i REALLY appreciate any help!! kate
