Arriving next week on 5 day reccie - Things to do

Hi, we're arriving next weekend on a 5 day visit to Canberra on a reccie and get to know Canberra ahead of our move later in the year. While we are there we will be staying in Bruce and looking at houses/suburbs to live in the Belconnen Or Gunghalin regions which we like the look of from looking at Allhomes. We have a couple of appointments with recruiters to start to build our contacts up and planning to visit a couple of schools for our 6 year old too.

While we are there we would also like to get a feel of what Canberra will have to offer us, so would appreciate any advice on things to do while we are there - places to visit, eat, see etc. We are thinking of also spending a day on the coast, so best beach advice would be welcome too.

All help/guidance would be most welcomed so that we can make the most of our time in ACT.

Thanks, Richard

Start at the top of Mt Ainslie or Black Mt and see it all in front of you for starters, just to get some sort of bearings.

Check out The RiotACT http://the-riotact.com/ for the weekend goings on (info from real people rather than public servants LOL)

Do a coffee shop trawl - pick out the biggest shopping centres and try one of the coffee shops as you watch the people go by and get a feel for what they look like and what they are doing. Go on some "open house" visits so you can see just how much allhomes airbrush the houses!!!!!

If heading for Belco then avoid Charny (Charnwood) for starters.

Do the run to your work in the rush hour from wherever you think you might be wanting to live!

You will want to go further than Bateman's Bay to get a good view of the beaches and it doesnt really matter whether you go north from the bay or south really. If you are only there for 5 days then you probably wont have time to go too much further afield than the immediate Batemans Bay area - some of the beaches are lovely but isolated so take your picnic box rather than relying on beachside restaurants (my preference is north from BB on balance but there isnt much in it)

Judging by the weather reports, dont forget to take your mac! It's been a wet summer thus far and actually not too hot either for a change.

Hope you enjoy your reccie! Get some melatonin to help you over the jet lag which you might experience so that you can make the most of your 5 days!
