Andrea
 Hi Everyone, We are flying to Oz in 5 days, and were just wondering if we could apply online for our Medicare cards or if we had to wait until we were in Oz. We have a friend in Melbourne who we could use for address purposes. Many thanks! Andrea
Slean Wolfhead
They like to see passports or ID with the form...does your friend have that? We took out travel insurance from Go Walkabout but took the 60 day cover and it includes the first 3 weeks after arrival, just to cover the mad period. You can apply for medicare on day 1 if you wish...then the cards will take a few weeks to arrive.
JoandJon
They'll give you a receipt to use until your card comes as well We both had to be there (which was annoying because I'm working full time) with ID etc etc
calNgary
You are supposed to go in person with your ID,they will not process it if anyone over the age of 18 to be on the card is not present. They do ask your here for at least 7 days before applying ,so your 'in the system'. Some centres give you a temp card straight away others tell you to wait until your plastic cards arrive ,this can take a couple of weeks. Hope this helps Cal x
Guest Guest31881
I would agree with others, you have to go in person and all family should go together with passports, I was asked to wait for 7 to 10 days before going to allow time for immigration to inform Medicare you have arrived. Apparently the immigration computer and Medicare computer only talk to each other a couple of times a week.... Sounds more like a married couple
