Anyhow ive read all our visa info over and over and i was just hopin someone would verify for us exactly how our visa will workafter we validate? We are 176 PR issued April 2011 so we have until April 2016 to move out perm? But can someone tell me what will happen say we go in 2014 we have to have 4 yrs before citizenship so after the initial PR 176 runs out what do we do for the remaining said 2 years till we have been there 4 yrs? Guest Guest31881 Posted January 5, 2012 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Your PR visa expires after 5 tears normally, You are a PR resident so you can just stay in Australia for ever and do nothing else. If you wish to leave Australia after your 5years have elapsed, you need to do one of two things. Apply for a residents return visa, again its valid for 5 years and allows you as a resident o come and go as you please for the next 5 years. Become a citizen, (been in country 4 years of which the last year was as a PR). You can stay in Australia after your visa expires, you just need an RRV or citizenship if you wish to leave and return to Australia. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
NickyNook Posted January 5, 2012 Share Posted January 5, 2012 The 176 visa doesn't run out in 5 years - only the right to enter Australia runs out in 5 years. Once you're here, you can stay here forever without having to do anything else. However, if you want to leave the country after the 5 years is up and then get back in again (say after a holiday) and you're not a citizen you will need to get an RRV. Easy... Kelly If the visa was granted in April 2011, the visa will allow you to enter and leave Australia multiple times for the next 5 years. After that time, if you are still in Australia, there is no restriction on you; you can continue to stay in Australia indefinitely. However, if you plan to travel outside Australia and then return back, you will need to obtain an RRV visa. pwkl Posted January 5, 2012 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I'm pretty sure I read that the 5 year RRV is only available if you have stayed in Aus for 2 years of the last 5 years (the period of your visa validity), otherwise its a 3 month RRV. wellieboots Posted January 5, 2012 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Once you have a validated PR visa, you have PR and can stay in Oz for as long as you want. The issue comes when you want to travel overseas, and then return to Oz. Generally PR visas are valid for 5 years of overseas travel, but once that 5 years is over, if you want to go overseas and return, you will need to apply for a Resident Return Visa. Some people don't want to become citizens and so just keep getting RRVs when they need them - you have plenty of time to worry about that further down the track... Good luck with the trip!
