So flights are booked, we leave on the 1st December. Visa (457) application complete. Removal company arriving 28th November and car bootsale done. So that just leaves us to find tenants for our house and re-home our cats. Oh and sell the car...there's nothing like living on the edge!!!

Many congratulations, I'm sure you won't regret it!

And you'll be here in time for you first Aussie Christmas - they're so strange, walking about the shops listening to "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas" whilst wearing shorts and a t-shirt!

I arrived in Perth last week, having done all that you describe and knowing all about the stress that was involved. IT WILL BE WORTH IT!!

Next week I am off to look for a car and consider my housing needs for the short term. Belongings on the high seas and due to arrive at the end of the month.

Good Luck!

Where you moving too? I came over on a 457 Visa 4 months ago and landed in Melbourne. Life is great and settled in really easy. Its easy to make friends and socialise, which helps when you miss family back in the UK. I notice you are a fellow Warwickshireian. I lived in Warwick and Coventry for most of my life and can honestly says its a little different over here!!

Hello, we have flights booked for 1st December, but I am not convinced that our visas will arrive on time. Not worried though, we will get there when we get there!

How are you finding life? We live in Stratford-upon-Avon and life is good, but this opportunity has come along and we are 'yes' people. Got to give everything a go!

We are looking at living in the suburbs around Sandringham, my husband will be working in the CBD and does not fancy a massive commute, so this seems to be the right balance between getting affordable housing and not travelling for hours everyday. Never having set foot on Australian soil, we may change our minds when we get there. (Any advice would be appreciated!)

Melbourne. We have now arrived :) Weather is great, people are friendly, still exploring...

G'day!

Glad you could make it. The weather is starting to settle down (a bit, the weekend is still looking a little 'iffy' though).

Where abouts in Melbourne are you?

Keep updating us, it's always nice to read a feel good post.

Best wishes and good luck,

Geoff

Geoff, we are staying in Southbank in a serviced apartment for a couple of months while we find a rental. We are looking in the Sandringham / Hampton / Black Rock areas, as we are keen to be close to the beach :) Any thoughts regarding this???

We have two girls 10 and 18 (prob already mentioned this (-: ) so decent schools are important too. Thinking of sending our youngest to either Hampton (zoned) or East Sandringham (not zoned, so easier to secure a place), we have looked at the latter and had a nice feel to it, my daughter liked it too. Hampton won't even let us through the door until we have a rental in the the zone, so still undecided! I think if we didn't have children we would look at Port Melbourne, not sure about the schools there...?

Anyhoo, I am rambling!
