Hiya,

wondered if anyone got a rough idea how long takes from applying to AHPRA to registration being granted? I've contacted them to be told it takes as long as it takes! They received my application in June - as a British trained nurse, and i move in October, and obviously want to start applying for jobs as soon as i can, but cant do that without AHPRA number.

So any rough estimates much appreciated!!

Hi,

I am waiting to hear from AHPRA too, and they always give the same answer! You can apply for jobs without being registered with them, I did and got a job before I even applied for registration. What type of visa you going on? We can't get visa till registered as going on 457 so our time of moving all hangs on this. We are hoping to go in November but may be New Year now if they don't get their act together.

It is very frustrating but you just need to be patient!

I'm an aussie citizen but nurse trained here, going back with my OH on defacto visa. I was registered in NSW in the past but let it lapse when moved back to UK, but had to reapply from start. When i've looked at jobs online all ask for reg number so thought needed it to apply, thats good to here can apply without! Thanks

My OH's AHPRA registration has recently been granted and it took 11 months. This included a request for him to re-submit 2 documents (as they needed to be signed by a notary public rather than a solicitor). He got the feeling that it's currently taking longer for mental health nurses' applications to be processed, and that the Melbourne office is much slower to process applications than the Adalaide office. He did manage to get a job offer from NSW Department of Health before his registration was granted (even though when he applied for the job, it said on the website that registration is a pre-requisite).

I'm a UK citizen and trained and worked in the UK. I sent my application off on 10th June and they acknowledged receipt of it on 24th June. My verification didn't arrive from the NMC until 15th July and i got an email saying i was approved in principle on 15th August. Very quick for me and I didn't get asked for any aditonal documentation. I sent my application to Brisbane

Congratulations! Can I ask did you send your ACRO police check with your application?

I am sending certified copies of: Passport, BSc Transcripts, Birth Cert, Marriage Cert, plus a signed copy of my CV and a statement of service. Is this enough?

Thanks for your help

Hi Nell, the timescales seem to vary, but you're unlikely to get AHPRA to give you a timescale. I sent my application in November and finally recieved my eligibility letter in June, but I had to present myself in person at the AHPRA office and it then took another 3 weeks to get onto the register. The best thing seems to be to 1) make sure you give them as complete and accurate information as you can and 2) contact them (badger them) regularly.

Best of luck. keep the faith it is well worth it.

Paul
