Flying Dogs back to UK

Hi

i am sure this has probably been asked before, but I have searched through and cant see it!

Do I have to used a specialised pet carrier such as Jet Pets, or can I book my dogs onto a flight with an airline direct myself?

I am sure that I have read somewhere that only a few airlines do it? If so which one?

has anyone done it direct themselves? Was it a headache?

They have just had their blood tests, so got to sit tight and wait for results, but I would like to start planning things now.:chatterbox:

Hi we used jet pets to return our boys to the uk last year! To be honest im glad we did as we had so much more to sort out, it took some of the pressure and worry of us! Still a lot of paperwork for us to fill in though, as we found taking the boys to oz was easier than bringing them back!

Hopefully someone else will be along who did them selves, all the best

Thanks Dawny. I've had a quote from Jet Pets and they seem really good, so I think we will go with them. Like you say so much to sort out. It does seem harder coming back from this end!

Your welcome, we found going to oz, petair uk took care of everything, however returning we found ourselves still having to do all the form filling etc, which did get very confusing at times, but the people at jet pets were happy to help, also they did it all by email, so not posting, plus it was sent back easily enough if we had made a mistake or missed something out!

Good luck with the results of the blood test

Our special boy Oscar is flying with Jetpets to the UK in 2 weeks, I would just use them, they know what they are doing and there is enough to worry bout without worrying whether your pooch is gonna get home in 1 piece or end up in Mongolia or something. Good luck

Creese - Do you mind if i ask how much it is to fly your dog back? After 16 months in Oz we are not sure if we'll be here for ever and my boys are desperate to get a dog and have often wonderd how much to fly them back (one way!)

Hi deaks we got quoted $5,000 for both dogs. It's a lot but I'm not leaving without them, there part of the family. I've got to start saving!!! I'm still going to get more quotes but I'm guessing there all be about the same

Hi Crease, I'm just going through the motions of pricing everything up and one of them is flying the boy back. Can I ask the quote you recieved - does that include their flight or just them handling the paperwork?? I'm hoping your going to say 'everything' and also are they going into quarentine? thank you.

Hi Lynn, that price was for flying them home, the flight boxes and processing the p/work and getting them through customs. You also need to get them vaccinated before you fly for their pet passports (rabbies jab). You need to get a registered AQIS vet to do it, as they need to fill out paperwork and give it to you. The jabs were $375 for both, then four weeks later they have to have blood tests ($575 for both) I am now waiting on the results of blood tests, if all ok, they can then fly back in 6 months and don't go into quarantine.

Thanks for that info Crease its really helpful! I've actually just had his rabies vacs done a few weeks back and he has to go for his blood tests this Friday, so I too am hoping the results will come back ok. Amazing the difference in prices though, just for the record - I was going to get his vaccinations done when we lived in Victora, but didn't and they were going to be the same price as you have just quoted. Now we are in Perth, the rabies vacs was $115 and the blood tests are $230 and I've gone through an AQIS vet, you wonder how they can vary so much? Good luck with all your planning Crease!

Hi Crease, I've been getting in a few different quotes and they are all coming in around the $3,500 mark, I was just wondering did you have to haggle with Jetpets, or are they giving you a better deal as you've got the 2 to fly? sorry to keep pestering you on this.

Hi Lynne

I didnt haggle with Jetpets, thats just the price they came back with, where abouts are you? Were in Brisbane. It may be because there are two dogs, or the breed. I have a Maltese ****zu and a Maltese King charles, what breed is your dog? (mine are both small and I think a lot of it goes on the weight of the dog?)

Yes, thats what it is. We've got a Labrador, so thats not a bad price we have then. Thanks Crease, do you know when your off yet? we are heading for the end of July, but we'll see how the plans go. I handed in the schools terms notice today and that actually felt very scary, so many mixed emotions at present, one day I feel really positive the next day I'm wobbling again - I'm sure this is perfectly natural, it's a big decision - but now we've made it, just got to stay focused, ha ha.

we've got no idea of date yet. We haven't sold the house yet, so can't do anything till that sells. just wanted to get the dogs ready, so when we are ready to go, we won't have to hang around for there results. It is a scary process, all the same emotions from the planning to come here in the first place come rushing back. Wish we were going in July! Wish you all every best on the return back x

Hi bloomersthebear

Yes, once youve received the blood test results, they are able to fly 6 months after that. Why they have to wait another six months is beyond me???

I noticed your in redlands, were in Capalaba, what part of redlands are you in?

We used the AQIS vet in Birkdale for the rabbies jab.

When are you looking to go back?

Hi Creese, were in Welly point. Lived here just over 4 years. Looks as though I will be going back alone at least to begin with just to make sure were making the right move/decision. I have a 5 yr career break and Im expected back in Jan. Not sure what to do with the house here though? rent or sell. To be honest its a tougher thought process this side of the pond than before.

We just got approved Citizenship so if it all goes **** up then we can at least run back with tails between legs.

How about you guys?? whats the score there? Oh and cheers for the doggy info and being so close. thats handy.

Just a small correction to that, the 6 month period starts the day you have the blood sample taken. It could make all the difference with dates as the results can take 3 weeks. We just got ours back

I agree about the 6 month wait though, doesn't make much sense.
