Pacific Pines Schools - disappointed :-(

Hi there

We are moving out to Qld in Dec/Jan (from NZ where we have been for 8 years) and had pinpointed Pacific Pines as somewhere that would suit us. I had looked at the school websites and thought they looked pretty good... However a friend pointed me to the myschools website and I was so disappointed by the schools performances against the national averages in all subjects. They were below average in ALL! This includes PP high school, PP Primary and Park Lake.. I am sooo disappointed - I know performance and league tables aren't everything but I would at least like the school to be performing at the national average...

Does anyone know anything about these schools? Can anyone recommend good schools on the Gold Coast? Kids will be year 8 and year 3.

I don't know anything about the school or area BUT there's been alot of controversy about this website here in Oz with parents and teachers, I wouldn't be too concerned if you've done the rest of your due diligence surrounding the school and area.

If the school comes highly recommended by those you trust then I'd be more inclined to follow that and your instinct. Hope that helps.

i only know that my 15 year old has come on leaps and bounds in the last two years at Pacific Pines. Hellensvale, down the road is meant to be a realy good school from what i've heard.

Kids in Queensland start school younger than other states so Queensland naplan results not necessarily comparing apples with apples. Probably worth having a look at the QSA site for year 12 outcomeshttp://www.qsa.qld.edu.au/downloads/publications/qsa_stats_yr12_outcomes_09.pdf.

Eek! The only ones I can find that are not religious on the Gold Coast are AB Paterson (too expensive) and Gold Coast Independent School (Primary) which I really like the look of, but I would rather my kids had friends close to where we live...

Had to laugh at Jimmies English teacher on parents evening. She was 40 mins behind schedule. After patiently waiting we sat down to be told "James has done great this year, but he has been late to 3 lessons and i'm a stickler for time keeping"

I was that bermused that i never even replied lol.

Upper Coomera is a few kilometers north of Pacific Pines. Our son attends school at Upper Coomera State College, year 7, and we are pretty satisfied with the school. Though, I have to agree that some of the private schools might be better. When I did an evaluation trip last year, I also rated A.B. Paterson in Arundel as the top school out of about 15, which I visited. In general, compared to USA and Europe, school in Australia doesn't seem to be so demanding and and it has been easy for our son to catch up despite leaping one year forward.

Hi

We move over to Australia at the end of November. We are hoping to rent in Pacific Pines and eldest son will hopefully attend Pacific Pines High. He will be in year 10 in Jan.

Although we worry about education, we are just as worried that he will fit in. Are the kids there friendly to new people? He is a sociable boy and does make friends easy.

Does anyone have any experiences to share when there child started here.

Thanks

Hi Jill,

I emailed them on Thursday as my son will be starting year 8 in January - I was asking a question about saxophone lessons as he plays in the school band here. Within 20 mins of sending the email to the general office address, I had a reply back from the music specialist offering free sax lessons and telling us exactly where our son needs to go to find her on the first day to get him all set up. I was very impressed and am hoping this is an indication of how efficient the school are!
