457ScottishExpat
Hi, My Mum and Dad are coming over to visit from the UK in January 2011. They'll be flying into, and out of Melbourne. They'll be in Australia for 2-3 weeks. Events in Melbourne in January 2011 January 16th: Cricket One Day International against England January 17th to 30th: Australian Open Tennis January 26th: National Day Celebrations AFL: Season over A-League: In progress. Sights Open to suggestions - too many to list! We spent a week going down Great Ocean Road and loved it, so that will definitely form part of our plans. They want to see some of the tennis, and the Cricket international - other than that the plans are flexible. I don't know about the best times to go to certain places in Oz weather-wise - I heard January was a bad time to go to Great Barrier Reef / Whitsundays ? Suggested itineraries please! Yours, 457ScottishExpat

Guest guest32776
I'm afraid you heard right about the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsundays - and pretty much anywhere tropical in January. Unless your parents are ducks they won't enjoy it; likely to be a deluge, incredibly humid with cyclones looming off the coast. I'm sure there is still plenty to do down South - Sydney is a beautiful city and there are great national parks nearby for trekking, camping etc
Guest Louey
Phillip Island to see the penguinsA trip up to Maldon Historic town Sovreign Hill Ballarat Puffing Billy Dandenongs Yarra Valley North Eastern Wineries Melbourne Tramcar Restaurant Melbourne Aquarium That is only a few without hardly leaving Victoria So much to see I didnt enjoy the visit to the penguins at Phillip Island.....far too many people and difficult to see them...you are not allowed to take pictures or video. I went to see them at St Kilda pier...not as many penguins but much more personal and photography was allowed without flash. Puffing Billy is a good idea and we also enjoyed all the free museums in Federation square especially the Moving Image one.
