Kerrygal Posted May 17, 2010 Share Posted May 17, 2010 We are a Kerry family heading to NSW hopefullly in July all going well and would love to see that there are other families like us going too. Mostly people are heading for Perth is their any reason for this? Our 457 visa was lodged on the 7th of May and our agent told us to give it 8 weeks so the countdown has begun... 6 weeks to go I won't be working in the begining, so I can assess everything like schools, transport, and most importantly where to shop economically. We have had the low life, the high life and now what we want is something in between with the added bonus of the good weather ...i mean come on ...when the sun shines...... everyone has a smile on their face .....yes even in moaning Ireland. We are not going over to Australia with rose tinted glasses, far from it ,we know its going to be hard and alot harder than people who came to live in Ireland had it but do you what..... Especially with all the changes to SOL, which my partner is now no-longer on.... thank god we submitted prior to the changes!!!! I too have noticed that anyone we speak to from Ireland, does seem to be heading in the Perth direction. We are heading to Melbourne. I envy you heading off in 6 weeks..... All these changes to the sol list is crazy when you think about it if Irleand had the same insight that Australia has it might not be in the situation it finds itself in these days. My husband found himself unemployed shortly after christmas and the day he went in to draw his stamps there were three eastern europeans just in the country 3days signing on lol This will not be happening in Australia. If the Irish government could take a leaf out of australias book who knows what would happen .. there may even be summer jobs for our sons and daughters this year This is not a moan just an observation.... Would like to go to Sydney as we have friends over there for the last few years. Due to get my skills assessment back today (hopefully), letter was sent to mig agent last friday from ACS so they should have it by now. Will be applying to ACT for SS then and applying for the 176 visa at the same time....then the big wait. Will be looking to get employer sponsorship in the meantime so as to a quicker way of getting over there.... Bloody changes to the SOL, suspended visa applications & new SMP's are just slowing things down even more. BTW, i agree, this place is in an awful state, plus the hopes of of more than 2 weeks of sunshine a year looks promising :biggrin: Best of luck to all who've posted, Harry. By any chance did ye have nat west to yer home in the last month. We had them and they said they had an appointment in Ardfert the same day? I have an Uncle and Aunt in Sydney and cousins but i thing we have to be near my husbands sponsor and he is in Port Maquaire. Not sure yet where we will be based? It would be nice if we could stay in touch we are adults 40 and 38 kids 18 16 and 12 sorry about no names will publish all when we get out visa ..... How long more do you think you will be waiting? Will probably have to go over to try to get an employer sponsor if possible or else we'll be waiting for the state sponsorship to come through..... I don't really know about nat west....nobody like that called to us at all. BTW, how did you husband get sponsorship? Was it though his current employment or did ye have to go looking? Not being nosey, but it's just i'm going to have to go looking fairly soon. Our skills assessment should be in once we get notified by our agent, after that we'll be applying for ACT state sponsorship and the visa, so the timeline all depends which way we go to get over there. Nice to know that someone from the same locale will be going thought the same experience as us (at some stage). No joy ..Then a friend of our suggested his brother in Port Maquaire and straight away things started rolling. You said you had friends in sydney could you ask them if they have any contacts that could sponsor you. This country is in a terrible mess, its not that I wanted to end up back here but what can you do? If i could get a longer term contract I can set up a LTD company and send myself as an employee to Oz but because of the way the market is here at the moment it doesnt look like its going to happen. I dont have a degree or a diploma but have workign in I.T over ten years and am Microsoft certified Systems Engineer, Microsoft certified technology specialist and Microsoft certified information technology professional. Anyone any other ideas how I can get out there?I was at a visa first lecture but I feel all they want is your money..Anyone have similare experiences? I wouldn't be confident that you will get many answers on a thread 'Any Irish Heading to Oz'. Once certified by ACS, then then that opens some avenues as to what type of visa you can apply for. If you're not certified by ACS, then as far as i'm aware, you will need to get a 457 visa to get to OZ. Not positive about how that works with contract work but i'm sure somebody on this board will be able to inform you correctly. I have been living in Australia now for 6 yrs, I lived in Adelaide for 6 yrs and have just moved to Melbourne a few weeks ago.. We have 2 children and we are loving it here. Still in shock at how quick things could move if he's successful. Think he'll have to go out alone and I'll follow with a 3 and 1 year old (god knows how I'll manage the flight) just fed up working our asses off in Ireland and having nothing to show for it - anybody out there in Sydney? Myself and the wife have started talking about it to family and friend, partly to prepare them - as it will be quite a shock if we announce "right, we're off down under, see you in two years for a visit...hopefully.....!" I have family in Sydney, she has distant relatives in Perth, but WA seems to be where the work is for me, so we are aiming for WA SS. Good luck to all! Just waiting for flight dates from his co. We're renting the house here & only bringing minimal furniture. Is that a good idea? I've heard ikea there not as cheap as here and was contemplating a quick trip to dublin for flat pack! Also if anyone has advice on where to live it would be appreciated! Hubby's job based in Minto, Campbelltown & I've been looking at mount annan/elderslie or the castle hills area or, for beachside, around wollongong. Any thoughts? Thanks!
