mattyegg
Hello All Could anybody tell me the deal with council rates and renting in Brisbane. Would be looking to rent for first year or so when we get there. I think I read in another post that the landlord pays the council rates but I can't seem to find it again. Thanks in advance for any info. Thanks Matt
lizzy27
Hi, yea if you are renting the owner is responsible for the council rates.. At least in NSW they are :-)

Thanks Matt I have had 2 rentals, The landlord pays any council rates, so nothing extra to pay on your rent. you are responcible for utilities, electricty, phone and gas (if you have it). Water bills vary... In the two rentals I have had the water meter was shared, so the landlord paid the water bills. If you rent a house and it is the only property on a meter, there are two options. The landlord pays the bill up to a set amount, you pay the extra if you use over the set amount, or you pay the water bill in total. You have to check on this when you are looking at property. :notworthy:
