Hi all just a quick post, movers came today we used moveplus.ie and found them really helpful an very fast they were gone in less then 2 hours we were only sending 11 boxes no big stuff but its hard to believe we even have that much stuff to bring. So tickets are going to be picked up on Monday and we have a meeting in the morning with a CV specialist to do both our CV's get them "aussified" at least then we can start applying for jobs as we will have an arrival date. No sign of passports yet we posted them registered post last friday so hopefully we will get them next week. Going away party booked for Nov 7th and looking forward to it but dreading it at the same time. We fly from Cork on the 16th so we are going to stay in the airport hotel the night before with family. Anyway thats all my news for now hope your all getting on ok too!

Hi Julie, thankyou for posting your details....I have added you to the front page....

However, I notice that you still have the 24th September down as your visa grant date...I think it best that we put the correct date, as the 23rd September + is a 'touchy subject' with us still waiting!....

OOPS sorry all I still have my fingers toes n aromes croseed wgich is y eye cont tipe prope :) x

Hi all, just a quick update as havent been on PIO in ages - so much to organise. Moving out to in-laws at weekend as house sale is completing on the 16th so will be officially homeless. The shippers are coming next Tue to start packing up the house, said it will take a couple of days as we are shipping most of our stuff. Been busy selling as much unwanted stuff as possible on ebay and have done a car boot sale but had so much need to do another one, cant believe how much junk you can accumulate in one house. Leaving party all booked for 9th January so something to look foward to after christmas. Will post with my new again soon

Hi All

Well we've been here for just over 2 weeks, and the kids like their schools :jiggy:

the primary does lots of outside stuff and seem more laidback about work than UK (but I guess that's comparing Primary 4 to Year 2 here) where as the secondary expects more homework to be done than our UK secondary school in UK and they do exams year 8 and 9 (Scott started school with exams for year 8 in the first week)

But they are now off for two weeks holiday before starting the last term before the christmas holidays (have been warned that last year boxing day was 47 oC - bit of a change to UK!!!)

Had beautiful weather at the weekend and so went for a round of golf at Port Kennedy (lovely course) on Saturday and a trip to Rockingham beach on Sunday and then on Monday went for a drive around lots of residential areas to compare them to Secrets and then went to Fremantle, Victoria Quay yesterday for holiday monday

OH got a job and started last week so all going well there

Anyway enough rambling, hope everyone that has made it over is loving it too and that the others that are coming soon have easy journey's over

Lorna:spinny:

Hi Lorna

Lovely to hear how you are getting on, bet it is a big relief that the kids like thir new schools. OH will be so pleased to hear that the golf course is lovely , sure that is the reason why he is so set on settling around that area - will be a golf widow again!!!

Hi everyone! Just thought i would update with how things are going at the mo! We are exchanging contracts on the house at the end of this week and are due to move out the first week of november....and into the inlaws until we go!!! We havent booked our flights yet but will be doing so as soon as the contracts have been signed from the house. We are looking at flying out on the 1st of january. The shipping company is booked and due to come on the 3rd of november!! There seems so much to do and i am trying to sell as much stuff as we can (we are not taking much with us) and so will be pushing on with that over the next couple of weeks. We are due to have a holiday in cornwall the last week in october which i am really looking forward too as it will be just me, hubby and the kids for 4 whole days with no house, paperwork, packing etc etc. We are having a big 'going away' party in december too! In a way i just want to go now and hubby feels the same but feel that it is best for the family and the children that we stay for christmas, i just cant wait and feel sooo excited.....and just a little bit scared!! Anyway will keep the updates coming!!! :cute:

Picked up our tickets today and we went out for lunch with Mother in Law afterwards looking forward to the next few weeks as all our big stuff is done most of the moving house is empty did another car boot sale yesterday made about 42 euro not bad for stuff that was going in the bin anyway have 2 boxes for charity shop. Getting cases out and going to start packing on wednesday see exactly what room we will have! Well done on the house sale's everyone and good luck with moving in with the inlaws! Glad we will be leaving from our own house in a way although i really wanted to sell will be nice not to have to move twice lol

Hi everyone - well I cant believe we have been here in Secret Harbour for 4 weeks. We have achieved quite a bit in that time already I think. We have driving licences, medicare, just got the keys for the long term rental, kids are in school and OH has a job (loads of chef jobs around). We've also made some really great friends already! I think when you are all thrown into the unknown you tend to need other people more and I think we knew it was really important to get some like-minded friends.

Secret Harbour is lovely - pricey - but very picture post-card. We have a rental just ten mins walk from the beach. I think it seems general agreement that you pay a premium for living in Secret Harbour. You can get much bigger properties with pools a bit further south. Our rental is only for 10 months as the owners are coming back from the states, so that will give us enough time to see if this area is really for us. Its very quiet. Nothing much happens except for golf and surfing, which is great in the summer but when we got here it rained for first 2 weeks and you know what there is to do in seaside towns in the winter - yep, nothing. However, that said, now the suns shining we are out at the park/beach most of the time so maybe you dont need anything else. I also havent had a lot of time just yet to find clubs etc for the kids. Matthew was in beavers back home and evie did tumble tots but cant find anything similar just at the mo.

I took the kids to the park at Mandurah today and we saw our first dolphin - was an amazing sight!

OH started work quite quickly so we've not had a lot of time to look around up North, but that's next on our list.

Hi Been a while since been on pio, please add me. Well we been here since 3rd August in that time wayne has been working, found a let and had the baby lol, so been bit busy. Tyler is in school and im going to view some day care tommorow as even though i dont work we can still get subsidised childcare even though lili is only 2. Would say its not as cheap here as you expect if anything its either on par with uk or more expensive. Just starting to get tyler back into her out of school activities, she was in Brownies in uk so is starting girl guiding tonight here. We are living in camillo not far from Armadale. If anyone wants to meet up for coffee and chat give me a shout would be nice to meet. Only advice is be prepared for it to be hard when you get here, it can be very lonley if you a stay at home parent like me. Havent managed to meet anyone apart from a couple of neighbours. School here is diffrent, once kids go into juniors parents dont tend to go into the school to pick them up they eithr park outside and wait in car or the kids get them selves home. The neighbours all work full time and we are the only people in street with kids. Have had my days already of tears and wanting to go home, starting to get used to it a bit now but we are giving it till the end of summer to see how we feel and decided if we go home.

Hi Rachael,

Sorry to hear you bit down- you have had a very hectic time of it, moving so quick and then having your new baby as soon as you arrived. Its not surprising you had a few tears !! I imagine its going to take time to settle and make new friends. Is there any playgroup type things or baby groups you can go to with Lili and the baby to meet other mums ?

At least you renting so if you want to move to another area with more young families you could.

Ill be the same when we arrive as my youngest only 3 so wont be working straight away. Thinking about going to the TAFE to retrain.

Least you can come on PIO and get it off your chest ! Good that your OH got work too.

Take care hun  xxx

Hi, just a quick update not been on PIO in ages as been so busy. Our house sale completed today. We moved into the inlaws house on Monday which is going ok as they moved out to my sister in laws to give us more room ( dont think they wanted to live with us!!!). The shippers came and packed up the house on Tuesday, our life in 61 boxes away into storage for the moment. They were really good and were finished before 3 o clock on the first day - I was expecting it to take 2 days. Hoping we can now chill out a bit and just finalise the final plans and enjoy our last christmas in the UK. Booked a big party for the 9th Jan so something to look forward

to just before we leave. Getting really excited now......

Hi Rachael

Congratulations on your new arrival. Not surprised you have had lots of tears it will be hard enough adjusting to everything without all the new mother hormones flying around. I think you are so brave with a new born baby but just remember it will get easier especially as you get out and about more with the baby and if you can find any new baby groups or mother and toddler groups they will be a good way to meet other people. Wishing you all the best and remember you always have us all on PIO if need to talk.

hello everyone! sorry its taken so long for me to put my first post on this thread but i wanted to wait until i had a few things to tell you all. so start at the beginning..... arrived oct 4th flew with singapore airlines they were realy good. Staying with my sister at the moment in Myaree which is about a 10-15 min drive from fremantle. My first day or 2 i felt all unbalanced and confused if i had made the right decision. I was previously led to believe by my sister and her husband that we were welcome to say with her for a while (obviously pay rent) but literally brother in law showed us the rental pages of the newspaper on day 2 of us being there. He left to finish a contract in dubai and is back 16 november so just incase he hadnt made himself clear enough he emailed me to say we couldnt stay there for long so really want to rent a place by then! My sister had her baby on 25th sept, a beautiful girl called jessica so its been so great to be able to help sis with her while her husband is away. Apart from the brother in law making us feel most unwelcome everything else is fine!! Arron is an electrician by trade so hes had to start a 10 week course which is 2 sessions per week tues and thurs 4.30 - 8.30, its just to learn all the australian regulations. Its a pain as it means finding a job is more difficult but there you go we will not be beaten! :-)

I on the other hand have fallen into a new job quite by chance. I went along with arron to the college in fremantle last week for him to enrol. A lady in the office was from the uk so spent a few mins sharing stories, she asked me what i did as a job, and shouted to the other women in the office when i said office work, for local governement. A lady jumped off her chair and came straight over to me asked if i had a cv and when i gave her a copy she looked at it and said brilliant brilliant. so they rang me on thursday went in on friday for an interview it lasted an hour and a half and i start monday at 8.30. We hadnt planned on getting jobs so soon but with the exchange rate tearing through our savings, and housing situation we just got to get on with it. Plus i think when you start work you really start to feel that your living in oz now and not just here for a holiday.

Met up with andy and rachel 2 weeks ago, we actually became friends through this forum. Had a alcohol filled day and night, which started at a winery festival had a brilliant time it really cheered me up we had such a fun time. we are meeting up again tomorrow for lunch in fremantle so looking forward to that. Well thats it really for now, i will post again in about a week to let those who are interested how work and rental searching is going. x

Hi everyone! Just thought i would write an update whilst watching our belongings being packed up! We are using anglo pacific who have been very helpful and informative.....and who are already on their second cup of tea!! We finally exchanged contracts on the house on monday (1st nov) and are due to complete on friday (6th), which is such a relief as it has been so stressful! We were packing up and sorting things out a couple of nights ago and i came accross a box of baby keepsakes and found a note which my dad had wrote to my son on his christening day and could just not hold back the tears and before long me and hubby were both crying. For the first time throughout the process we felt very sad for what we are leaving behind. I think up until now we never thought we would get there!!!!!!! We are flying out on the 7th of jan (staying with the inlaws for 9 weeks  ) and have booked a holiday let in joondalup for the first 3 weeks! Booked a venue for a big going away party on the 2nd january and are now looking forward to christmas and spending time with family, although there still seems to be a million and one things to do!!! Will update again soon x :wubclub:

Hiya

All going great, im 3 weeks in on my new job and its going ok really nice office atmosphere and i feel getting a job definately helps your settle in. We now have our own place to live. Its a rental in Bibra Lake not so far from my sister in myaree. We loved as soon as we saw it as its got a massive pool and in lovely area. There was an open house to view it to rent last monday and loads of people turned up so i didnt think we had a hope in hell so i didnt get my hopes up. Though i filled in the rental application that night and arron handed it in the following morning and we got it! there are lots of properties to rent but not many with pools and arron was adament that he wanted a pool for his first summer in oz. so if that isnt a big issue for you you will be fine otherwise you will have to ge in there quick as we only had about 3 to choose from. Think we get the keys for it on friday so will be busy buying furniture and all the bits and bobs for it as we didnt bother bringing it with us. Not long for you now! best of luck with it all just remember that you can pop back at any time for a holiday thats what i kept saying to myself, my mantra in the end was 'i will see them next year, i will see them next year' . Arron still hasnt got a job but then he hasnt even looked hes been studying the australian regs and good he hasnt got a job yet as hes dropping em off and picking me up from work. Thats another thing we have to get, a car! Be prepared to watch your savings go down DRAMATICALLY as there is just so much stuff you have to get. Im at work so better get back to it! i will fill everyone in on the moving in details over the next couple of weeks! x

Hi everyone - thought I'd do a quick update. Things going pretty well. OH has now been offered permanent job, just east of Perth. He will be working 7 days on (10 hours each day) and then 7 days off - we cant believe it! For a chef job that is brilliant, we didnt see each other in the UK and the money is great too! Its a real plus for us as that's why we came, to get more time together. In the UK Dan missed out on everything, chefs are expected to do split shifts and weekends - the same happens here in some places but they are much more aware of family time.

We moved into our long term rental a few weeks ago and its a fab house - its massive! Our shipment arrived from the UK (a few days early!) and the furniture we brought, that filled our house back home, doesnt cover half of this house!

Saw our first snake last week on our walk to school. It passed right in front of us. The kids didnt even notice but I was pretty shocked. Although it wasnt interested in us and just slithered away.

The weather is really starting to pick up. Think it was 28 today. And the flies! Man they do your head in. But we have been told that they are not around for all of the summer.

We dont have a pool but are already starting to think we could do with one. We have borrowed a put up one just to get through the summer months. We had the idea when we got home from school we would have tea then go play on the beach - but the reality is that the kids are too hot and bothered and whenever we go to the beach we take the car because we have body boards, change of clothes buckets and spades etc. So we are starting to think we could move further in land and afford a house with a pool rather than live so close to the beach.

Am missing family terribly, OH says he doesnt miss anything from back home. Definitely dont see us going back in the short term. We've given ourselves a two year make or break deal so one's things for sure, we are going to do as much as we can in those two years so we can make a proper decision when the time comes. We are really enjoying it though and I think the key to that is having made some good friends within the first few weeks. You have to push yourself on to people and swap numbers and ring them!

Just now trying to imagine a very hot Xmas! Think it will be bbq turkey!

Hi Kelly,

Would you please add our timeline to the front page. Like many others that have posted on here I still can't quite believe that after all this time we now have our visa and what was a distant dream is soon to become reality. Darren & I are going to New York in April (surprise pressie for my 40th in Dec), so we've decided not to make any plans until after our return. We have an initial entry date of 26/11, however, we would like to be there before Sept as Charlotte is due to start uni here in the UK and we both feel that if she was to take up her degree here then she will not decide to move until after her she's completed her degree which is something I really don't want to have to think about. Well I guess there's nothing more for me to say other than for those that have already arrived I hope Australia is everything you hoped it would be and good luck to those of you yet to move down under, see you all on the other side.

Hi Everyone, just an update from the o'tooles, we are here just 2 months now Mark got work the first week we got here in Caversham House but has to do crazy hours part and parcel of a Chef job but he is looking for something else now that the new year and christmas is over. We got a rental in about 2 weeks in Carramar its near Joondalup and its lovely still getting bits and peices of furniture together.

Kids started in St Anthonys Primary the week after we arrived and love it so much its a fantastic school its private but I def feel that we are getting what we pay for they have done so much in the few short weeks and they really made them feel at home I could not fault it they are due back after the holidays on the 1st Feb so they are looking forward to going back now we have enjoyed the summer holidays though! Heat the last week has been amazing its reached 42 the last 3 days cooler today at 30 which was a nice break.

It is hard work when you arrive sorting everything out but we def made the right decision coming we are so happy here!

Anyone fancy a meet up sometime next week?
