Meds and pc's before or after lodge visa???

Hi all,

We have been told by our agent that we need to lodge our visa application by dec because of dates on work references etc.

What I am worried about is do we need to get meds, police checks, state sponsorship and so on done and ready before lodging the visa application or can we lodge then add the rest at a later date.

Still a little confused by it all.

Tried emailing our agent but he's away til end of sept, really stressed out and worried gonna run out of time and back to square one.

Thanks K

Tough one. We front loaded PCs and medicals and it came back to bite us a little, as the six-week validation date facing us via the original docs is a little too early for us with two newborn kids. The way we are now attacking it (after re-doing everything) is to work out when our earliest entry date we want to validate the visa and then count back from then accommodating for how long everything is valid for.

As for there being a statute of limitations on work references... No idea, mate. Sounds iffy to my layman's ears though, as my agents never mentioned it. Doesn't mean it isn't true though as we were very up-to-date with everything.

I'd ring your agent's offices (again?) and get a clear plan from someone there about exactly what you should do. You paid them for their advice as and when you need it; when they choose to take leave is redundant to that deal. Contacting them by phone's is always much better than e-mail though IMO.

Hope this half helped anyway, and good luck!

Hi Koala,

You do not need to worry about the medicals or the pcc, as they are not expected by DIAC upon lodgment and they even advise NOT to do them until requested. They have a limited validation (12 months) and the visa validation date is normally set by the earliest date on these documents (so the later you do them, the more time you buy yourself to validate the visa). The case officer (CO) will request them when they are processing your application.

you do not need to add the state sponsorship upon lodging of a subclass 175 visa application. When you do obtain it, you can inform DIAC later of the sponsorship and it will be attached to your application. This will make you eligible for priority processing and your visa may be handled as a 176 (but there are many reported cases where still a 175 is issued). There are no further fees involved to do this.

If you can currently make the pool mark without state sponsorship (that is 100 points without the state sponsorship) there is nothing that stops you from making your lodgement now. Your application will be kept into the pool until you meet the pass mark for processing (120 points for VE175 or 100 for VE176 but then you need to have the statesponsorship secured). Applications are kept in the pool for 2 years and for example an application that is kept in the pool for someone that lodged at age 44 will still meet the visa requirements if they make the pass mark 2 yrs later.

Make sure you meet ALL requirements for the documents upon lodging tho, such as skills assessment and the IELTS test if you do not have an eligible passport (UK, USA, Canada, Ireland, NZ). And if you do hold such a passport, only calculate 15 points in the test to see if you make the pool mark.

Good luck with your application.

Sylvia
