You can't go to oz without a trip to Far North QLD

That coast line from Cairns to Cape Tribulation is my favourite place in the world!

I got married in St Mary's by the sea in Port Douglas in 2003 and love it there.

if you want to see something totally amazing....

palm cove qld...walk north along the beach..around the rock faces..back onto a smaller beach opening..a little further and you will come across a giant slide of hard volcanic flow..where it comes down the mountain and across the beach..the flow is about a foot or so high..look for an imprint of one foot of a human and one of a horses hoof...one of each..only....

dam, that must have been bloody hot whoever stepped on it way back whenever..:err:

I've been told they found a croc in the stinger net at P C recently. Don't know if it's true or not but there are certainly warnings of crocs patrolling that beach in the local paper. It sure is nice there though.

We lived in Palm Cove for 3 years which was fantastic. There definately was a croc a couple of beaches down when we were there. Fantastic place though!

There was one on Trinity beach a couple of months back. My mother in law is holidaying there soon. Wonder if it's still there.

I can only hope

I visited palm cove when I was in Queensland five years ago

Great beach not to commercialised hope it has not changed.

It is about 10k from cairns & there is a bus service from cairns

Hiya!

Just got back from a weekend away in Trinity Beach and re-visited Palm Cove - nothing much has changed on the front in the 4 years since we were last there - beautiful!!!! Although the new builds and property available has increased so much!

Still completely in love with the place and - yes - the crocs are around, but not since the rain as the water is not preferable to them when it's cooled by fresh rainfall!

Outside of stinger season is the best time to go!

Back now in sunny and very HOT Canberra - 31 deg today and warming up! It's supposed to be autumn :o)

Considering that everything south of Mackay in Australia is virtually a desrt, it's a bit hard to complain about the wet season! No water restrictions...

I live on the Atherton Tablelands and often go down to the coast. I think the coast north of Cairns is the most fantastic piece of coastline I've ever seen. Great beaches, great fishing, great forest, great reef, fabulous little coastal resorts and no crowds, and you can cool off up on the Tablelandsif you get too hot.

We call it paradise.

Now... about those stingers...

Hi all...!

I went to Palm Cove when I was in Australia in July and loved it...!!! Though, the 'croc' warning sign wasn't too inviting lol

I have just come back from a lovely holiday in Palm Cove, they were throwing out bargain holidays from Melbourne. We got 7 nights in the nice 5star resort Peppers with return airfares with Virginblue for $1145. What a bargain. Only problem was the humidity, which did get us a bit, and also it is 'stinger' season, so on the beachfront you have to swim between the flags with the lifeguard on duty there (which is a good thing to do at all Aussie beaches anyway). We hired a car, a little Hyundai Getz, for around $40 a day, and we drove up the Captain Cook Highway from Cairns, then onto Palm Cove (around 30 mins), then up to Port Douglas and onto Cape Tribulation. Also visited the Daintree Rainforest Tour, which is superb, you can see a few crocodiles in certain seasons. The sound of the rainforest is unbelievable when you are on it on the boat, and all the wildlife is amazing, tree snakes, birds, etc.

The only thing is the heat though, we waited till 4pm to do the tour, as it was a little more overcast then and we didn't have the sun beating down on us! It was perfect on the boat.

Well worth a visit if you are going to Queensland, a bit further up than the Gold Coast/Sunshine Coast, but well worth the visit. If you are staying in the resorts on Palm Cove, the only thing that we found was there were some fantastic eating places, and others not so great.

I guess in Qld there is more of a 'laid back' service in some places than what I am used to in Melbourne but you can find the ones you like. Cocky's Cafe found it hard to get me some butter, so covered my raisin toast with margarine without asking. Very laid back there, don't talk a great deal to the tourists, but they seem to survive!!!

There is a superb place on the beach front next door to Peppers Resort called Bella Baci and their food is superb, also another place down the street upstairs called Casmar. The front of house guy there is fantastic, the chef is great, and they are very welcoming to tourists.

There were quite a few Brits there when I was eating there.

cheers

Olly
