Worried about my chest xray!

Hi there, i am wondering if anyone could help me, i am really worried about my chest xray.

We (me, my husband, and two children) went for our medicals yesterday. I thought it would of been my husbnand who would of been the main cause for worry with regards to passing our medicals, but how wrong was i.

I am healthy and have got no health concerns, or well so i thought.

I went in to see the doctor after having my medical, who asked me if the radiologist had mentioned anything about my xray. I said no, and asked what was worng with it. He told me that it showed hazy opacification, on the left lung base, and asked me if i had recently had a chest infection, and was i coughing up green plegm. I amswered no to both, as i never ever have chest infections, or coughing.

He listened to my chest and then told me it sounded clear and that there was probably nothing to worry about, but that i had to go to my gp and have a repeat xray done in 4 weeks time.

The problem with all this is that all my evidence required for the visa has to be sent in by the 14th August. If i go for repeat xray on the 31st of july, and they will not hurry it up because i am am not symptomatic, and they told me it can take between 5 days and 14 days, so that would be past the 14th august.

Please can anyone give me any advice on what to do?

Contact your CO, I doubt they will grant the visa without a clear x ray. The are mainly looking for TB I believe. If you had a cold or minor infection it may affect your chest without you being aware..I'm sure it will be fine next time. Maybe pay extra and ask them to bring it forward? On the other hand if it's still hazy you'll have wasted your money..are you a smoker at all?

Hi there, thanks for replying, no i am not a smoker, and really don't remember having and coughs or colds and haven't had a chest infection, but since posting my message was reading another post whereby the problem seemed to be a problem with the taking of the xray, so i am hoping this is the case with me.

Fingers crossed!

My husband had a similar problem (blurry chest ray) and we were warned it may be cancer and he was sent promptly for a CT scan. We were completely freaked out by the whole thing - like you he was totally asymptomatic. Ofcourse it was nothing, completely clean CT scan, and even though they would not admit it I am convinced he probably moved during the xray or something like that. The totally unnecessary CT scan cost £900, thankfully our private health cover paid for it, but guess what - it was a private hospital! Call me cynical...

Have you asked your panel doctor if it could be a problem with the taking of the xray and insist they repeat it? I am sure you would have to pay again but given the urgency he may agree to it...

Hi

my husband is a spray painter and before we put the house on the market and started down this long and winding road, we paid privately for him to have a chest x-ray given the nature of his job. It came back as showing a vascular abnormality and they gave him a CT within a week. That did freak us out, but the CT scan was completely normal and clear. When we went to have the formal X-ray for the visa, we took a copy of the CT report and Drs letter, and they photocopied it to go with their X-ray results. Definately worth paying the money for you to have it done again privately, as you can take the X-ray away with you after a short wait, well we were able to.

Good luck, and hope that everything goes well.

Sylvia

Thanks for your replies. I am now more positive about it all. But still i am going to go and have a second xray. Do you think that it will matter if the panel doctor stated to wait 4 weeks?

4 Weeks is such a long time when you are really worried about your health though.

Hi There

Have you had a word with your own Dr to see what they say? They may say that you don't have to wait 4 weeks. I had a really bad chest infection once and was nearly hospitalised with it, my doctor sent me to the hospital for a chest xray and the hospital said that they wanted me to go back for a 2nd one after 2 weeks to see if my chest had cleared, I got the all clear after the 2nd one. I know that you don't think you have a chest infection but if it was the start of something, it may clear up sooner than 4 weeks.

Hope this helps.

We had our medical x-rays one at our local private hospital. It was only (!) £78 each which I think is pretty good value and may offer piece of mind for now, even if your panel Doc want to repeat it in four weeks. Out of interest, did you ask WHY he wanted to wait four weeks?

I did have a word with my doctor, but he was locum, and not my usual GP. He just reiterated what the panel doctor said, in the fact that not to be too tempted to go for the chest xray sooner, as this may just result, in the film being the same, ie problem on the left lung base.

I reckon i am going to wait two weeks and go for it then,

I really should of known that things would go wrong, things never run smoothly for me.

I had my medical in 2004 , a couple of days later I had a direct call from the panel dr telling me there was a dark shadow on my lower left lung which they were worried could be cancer!!!, my diaphram wasn't working ,the bottom part of my lung had died off and some main nerve from my lung didnt work anymore ,he told me he had forwarded xrays direct to my GP and for me to see him straight away,

My self, wife and family were worried sick I went straight to see dr, he talked me through xray and confirmed the previous dr's worries and was wondering why I weren't coughing up all kinds in his surgery, and seemed amazed I had no symptoms, even tho I am a large build!!! he advised me to go private to be seen immediatley.

Cut a very long story short,

I had a CT scan 3 days later then an appointment with top lung specialist (friend in the right places)

The scan ruled out cancer which both dr's had petrified me about, but the scan did confirm all of the other finds, they say I have an un developed lung from birth, which is why my diaphram doesn't work and the other nerve thing doesn't work!!!!

After that sort of good news, my main worry was passing my medical,

I had to ask the lung specialist to write a report to my case officer, luckily the specialist had dealt with migration medicals a lot and once he was happy that my condition was not affecting me and that I had lived 31 years with it he wrote to my case officer and told them what they wanted to hear, and I had my visa within a few weeks.

It was the most worrying few weeks ever, a lot of the guys on here were very supportive and very resourcefull, (especially Gollywobbler)

Luckily for me it wasn't a serious condition, and hopefully yours will be the same,

Good luck and try not to worry too much

(and I said I was going to keep it short!!!)

Neil
