karlom
Hi All, Sorry for the stupid question but what is the role of the CO? I understood that once your skills were assessed that you made the full 175 application. I assume the CO is the person who actually starts looking at your particular case. Does that mean that nobody has looked at it until CO assigned or are other doing work like verfying your documents, references etc and it is given to CO for final decision? thanks Karl , Sue & Jessica (3)

Does that mean that nobody has looked at it until CO assigned or are other doing work like verfying your documents, references etc and it is given to CO for final decision? The way my agent explained it to me, basically once your skills assessment is done and your application is lodged, your file sits in a massive pile for several months, until a CO gets assigned, which is when the processing actually starts. Under normal circumstances (and right now there is a lot of upheaval) , once you get a case officer it is the final stretch. Assumingthere is no problem with your application / documentation, and you get your medicals and police checks done swiftly (if you haven't frontloaded them already ie did them before the case officer requested them), you should -theoretically- have the visa in a matter of weeks. I got my CO assigned last week and meds / PCs being finalised on Saturday - so let's see how fast the CO will process my application !! will keep all posted.

Guest renato
I don't get it!!! I've applied on 4/Feb/08 - 175 - on CSL & MODL (IT) - Online application Before December, the aspc message was telling that all applicants from Dec/07 were processed... now, after they started the new priority processing, I'm still waiting!!!! Do you know if they are only processing 176/47x, and ignoring the 175?! What about location - I'm acutally living in Australia under work permit visa - Are they prioritizing people from specific countries?!?! Why I haven't received a message from the depto?! Guest Tatiana
We applied in March 08 and got our case officer assigned last week, if that is any help to anyone Hi there, I applied in February 08, still waiting as well. Actually we're on the CSL and MODL (IT professional) but already living in Melbourne under the 457. Does anyone know if it could be the reason it's taking so long (PLEASE ANSWER my question, I think everybody is here in the same situation to help each other so I would appreciate any kind of information) 175 e-lodged applied on 4th Feb 08, the only update in the website was 23/03/09 - application being processes further" but everything still "required" - even though we've already sent all docs including PCC. Thank you in advance Tati

Thank you in advance Tati Application being processed further means you have been allocated a CO. I guess the speed of processing depends on which team/CO you are allocated...there are many teams of COs (team 1,2,3,....). And under each team/CO, there is/are one or more junior officers...these are the officers who will look at your file and changed the online status and request for whatsoever further information before passing on the file to the team leader/CO. I applied in Jul 08, allocated CO on 31 Mar 09 and my documents have all changed to "Met" except for one damaged file. I received an e-mail on the 31 Mar 09 from the so-called junior officer (on behalf of the CO) to request for the file to be re-attached and no news since then. There are people who applied in August who already got their Visa granted recently....I assume they are on top of the list (by lodgement date) of their allocated team/CO. Maybe your file is already sitting on the desk of your CO from another team....and once the junior officer look into it and change everything to "Met" your file will be passed on to the CO who will grant you the Visa. These are just my assumptions...but I hope it helps you feel a bit better

Guest AlisonC
Looks like 175 visa processing is further down the pecking order. We use following website to track processing BEupdate - Timeline Spreadsheet for Australian Visa Applications. 175 processing will come after 475 and 176 visas have all been completed. online 175 application 3/9/08 I have just gone on to this website & filtered every month for British Citizens on 175 applications. The site shows that all applications filed before July 2008 on the CSL list have been processed and visas have been granted. The movement for Mar 08 - June 08 is mainly this year. All of the outstanding 175 applications for British Citizens are for the applicants no longer on the CSL list. I would say that this indicates that things are moving on the skills stipulated by the March 09 ammendments................
