My wife and i are on a fact finding trip in March - with the hope of moving ( via a state sponsored visa )

We're going to drive from syd to mel ----- say taking a week ( just to get a feel for the countryside )

Any help with the route or nice places to stay ?

Then hopefully somewhere in or around Mel for another week again to get a feel for the city or outlaying areas.

So anyone any places to stay in mel or outside it - also estate agents that maybe could show us a few areas and get an idea of prices and areas.

Thanks for any help and happy new year !!

Two routes from Sydney to Melbourne - the inland route up the Hume and the coastal route via the Pacific Hwy. The Hume bypasses everything except Holbrook (famous for its submarine) and Tarcutta (famous for its truck park) but you can detour and get to visit beautiful Canberra! The coast route is definitely the prettier but also longer and once you have seen one beach and small coastal town you have probably seen them all.

For a change you could try down the Hume to Canberra, then down the Monaro for a quick look at the snowfields then down through country Victoria either straight to Melbourne or via Gippsland. It wont be highway driving but it would be different.
