Contact PEER in Adelaide they do a distant learning course to learn the AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules when you pay the fee they will send you all the books and course work but you will still need to go to Adelaide to sit the exam im afraid. I did the course last year I flew over to Oz and did the exam they give you the results at the end of the second day and you take your certificate away with you. If you do decide to to do this course PEER will give you a lot of support along the way but you still need to do the work book before you go over for the exam I went for my exam with a guy who hadnt finished the workbook and he was told to go away and finish it before sitting the exam!! After doing the exam myself I can see why it is so important. Good Luck

neal did you get your visa before you got your artc cert or did you get it sent to somebody elses address

I went to Adelaide in November to do my exam you can stay in the center of Adelaide and catch the bus to the college dont get on the train as I did the first time I tried to find the college the station that was nearest was Albert Park but it was a long way from the college the best way is the bus if I remember rightly its the number 150. Oh one thing to watch if you do stay in the city is dont stay in Hindley street there are hotels there but the one I stayed inwhich I booked on the net was also a Bail hostal!! and to make things worse Hindley street is also where the red light district is so be warned. Dont let this put you off staying in the city though its a nice place to be apart from a small area that ive mentioned.

Good luck with the exam you should have no problems as long as you have done the course work

I got my visa first and then when I activated my visa I went to Melbourne and filed all my paperwork again this is a pain but it has to be done. I then went home to the UK, once they have classified your application they will notify you at your UK address of what grade you have been awarded. You will not be able to get your certificate until you give the TRA an Australian address. What I did was give one of my relatives address to the TRA. I didnt give them the address until I went over to Oz in November to take the AS/NZS3000 wiring rules course so in fact they had held my cert for nearly 2 years. I had activated my visa in 2007. It only took about 4 days from me e-mailing them an address to me recieving it. One thing you can do to apply for your grading is ask if they would use your visa infomation to grade you i did this it did save a bit of hassle with having to get all your trade paperwork sorted out again.

Good Luck

Hi all

If anyone does manage to get hold of a pdf copy I'd really appreciate a copy, I haven't got my vetassess practical until june so wont stand a chance of doing my Aus wiring regs exam for over a year!! but I wouldn't mind seeing how much they differ from our regs as I used to teach electrical installation at city college in birmingham for a while.

Hi,

My hubby is sitting the exam, at Peer next week. We live in WA and i read on another forum that you can no longer transfer your license from SA to WA? Can anyone give me anymore info on this as i have looked through the WA energy safety website and it states that through mutual recognition you can still transfer. He has booked his flights etc so he will sit the exam regardless but if anyone has any info on this, that would be great.

hughes;

may i ask did he get a certificate of electrical mechanic or Fitter, if fitter for some reason WA wont accept the PEER license, however that's illegal they must oblige the state to state government ruling so i would be pointing this put to them right now.

they say people with the electrical fitters license dont have the skills for WA thats bollocks.

phone them & tell them they must transfer the license.

or phone peter jolly at PEER he shall get onto the ministry for you, he is a decent bloke to talk to

hi - looking to make an application for a RSMS 857 sponsored visa. I am an electrician.

I have an employer who is keen to sponsor me.

However, need to know the process for skills assess for RSMS - I understand that it is not always essential.

Thanks in advance!

Hi all, new to all this stuff but was hoping that someone on here could help me!

I currently live and work in the uk as a Electrically biased maintenance engineer, 2 years ago i went to australia on a working holiday visa and stayed for about 6 months and worked for a guy in sydney for most of that time doing alot of welding and fabrication work with a very small amount of electrical stuff but due to stuff going on back here i had to return. Recently the guy has contacted me and asked if i would like to return to sydney and work for him again, i would love to go back but i have no idea which visa/visa's to apply for, the guy is very keen to sponsor me and help in any way he can but he did say that i would be better off going to australia and applying for my visa when im there as the process time is quicker that way! is that true? Im a single guy with no dependants and will be going there on my own, does that make a difference? I also have about 10k saved up to help fund my travel and accomodation etc.

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place but really need some help on this!!

many thanks

justin.

You can only apply for a RSMS and ENS only if you have a full electrical Licence. Ive have had to apply for a 457 visa 1st until I can get a full Licence.

Hi Kezbow

It has to be an oz cert mate.. I kicked and screamed being a former firefighter with current uk first aid but was no good. Saturday and Sunday at the local ambulance station, $150.00 later and all was well.

Good luck

Hi there

Just wandering if any of you can assist or offer some advice?

My OH is a NZ Licensed Electrician (he lived and worked in NZ for a year and did the courses/exams etc there) and we as with many many others are in the endless queue waiting for a VISA. In order to speed things up he has been looking for sponsorship opportunities but we are getting no response despite the well documented shortage of Licensed Electricians. Can any of you offer some leads?

His NZ practising Licence is fully transferable once in OZ with no limits (same reg's), despite the license he had to under go the VETASSESS saga here in the UK for immigration purposes ....... He has over 20+ years experience on Industrial, Commercial and Domestic sites, He specialises in HVAC and BMS controls but would consider any Electrician role. Queensland has been a first choice but would consider other locations.

Any help, advise etc would be much appreciated

Thanks

You will need to do it in Oz. The ambulance stations run then all the time specifically for sparkies. takes about 3 hours. good luck.

Hi all

can anyone help? I ve been told there s a back way in with gaining a licence(s).

Im a 30 year old spark I have my C&G parts 1&2, 2382(17th edition), nvq 3, and compEX (oil & gas).

I ve done the VETS route and passed. recently got sponsership for queensland now looking to apply for the visa. I was told that i could dump the vets route by doing the ARTC route?? Is this still an option? Can someone verify for me?

Apparantly i can apply for a 1 year working holiday visa

then use my aunts (goldcoast) address for correspondance

then submit evidence to ARTC

Get Trade certificate

Go to PEER

Get licence

Transfer to Queensland.....

Can anyone verify this for me and also give me an idea how to go about applying and what material to use. sorry about spelling.

kind regards

I believe you are correct. providing you meet the age requirements for a working holiday visa, and providing they give you one as you already have an application current.

We got skills accessed as Elec (special class) by TRA so will be going the peer route. This could also be an option for you !

Hi,

You can do this, but it will take longer than you expect... I am doing exactly that (although in NSW)..

I started the process last November, applied to PEER as well as to the ARTC people... did the PEER coursework, went down there 1st week in Dec for the test etc and passed ok... I also through them did the required buiness skills modules that you need for the SA license... have a look carefully at the requirements for the SA license, you need more than just simply the ARTC and reg's...

The ARTC though has been really dragged out, they want me to do a skills test, pretty much the same at the Vetassess... it has taken until now to get it all arranged, I am off to TAFE tomorrow to do it, then they will submit the results to ARTC who will issue me with the TRA and then finally after 5 months I can apply to the SA people for the full license..

Nothing here is as quick and as simple as you would expect..!

All the best,

James...

mate i think if i were you i would do one ,get your hoilay visa and go , i have done a lot of research on this and kate at peer told me that once i,d got my cert from the tra (which you cant get without a visa number and an oz address to post it to) you do there course 2 days then get your license then transfer it to qld, but with all the different stories on here am unsure if this is still the case . i would be out of here and go and check it out for myself:radar:

Cheers Pal

I ve just looked into the visa and i can still get the working holiday at 30 but not 31.

i have the Mrs here and we have a 1 year old daughter and another on the way so i cant just bugger off out there.

I will keep you guys posted. Can anyone give me any ideas on what to send in evidence wise for the ARTC. do you think its wise or stupid to send my VETS/OSTR cert to show i have passed VETS practical test.

Im an Installation spark currently working on a power station in the midlands as a maintenance elec. Normally i would be installing but there seems to be nothing around thats worth bothering with money wise, so i parked up here hoping to ride the down turn out as this is local to home and the job pays blue book money around £15 an hour.

At the minute im looking after Allen Bradley PLC,S, input and ouput cards, plant equiptment such as Limit switches,D.O.L motors, isolators, Rotork Actuators, contactors, overloads etc. the most i can prove really is general replacing of motors and SWA cable thats damaged or burnt on these plant machines i work on amongst the stuff i,ve listed previous.

My role is limited to a specific area of plant which the company i work for specialise in.

strictly permitted to look after the control panels and plant linked to the control panel and PLCs. nothing more nothing less.

I can provide pictures and evidence of what im doing such as permits for work, job cards references but im worried this wont be enough to satisfy the assesor that im a the installation type and not the maintenance type......not that i have anything against maintenance sparks but i wanna make sure i end up with the right license.

So what im trying to say is that im worried the evidence i provide wont be satisfactory for the job i say i do.

any thoughts chaps? can i ask what you lads sent to get your ARTC?:chatterbox:
