idrabble
For those of you who have left a house for sale, or a house empty. How did you go on with home insurance?? Been told today it would be very difficult to get Bex x I have been told that as long as the property is visited at least once a week, your insurance should still be valid, but obviously check with your insurance company to be certain. Petals
Really need to check the policy but I do know that people have difficulty insuring holiday homes as they are vacant most of the year.

Guest 8788jt
Hi Bex When our property was empty we had it insured with Abbey and there were no problems or exclusions/conditions. Don't forget to phone the council and tell them as well as you don't need to pay council tax. Good luck - Joanne
NTH SHARMAN
We left our house empty when we flew out in June. We just had to confirm that someone would be checking the house on a weekly basis, to our Insurers. No problems. You don't pay council tax for six months, but then the payments start again after that, so leave your direct debit in place, if you have one. I'd hoped we wouldn't be paying any more council tax, but it looks like we will be :realmad: T xx
Guest prettyinpink
We had our insurance policy with Halifax. They told us that the property was ok to continue with current insurance unoccupied for 60 days. After that time had elapsed, we were already here awaiting completion of our house sale. We phoned Halifax, they said that was fine, added a few pounds to our policy for unoccupied premises type clause, and we're still insured. Best to ask your insurance provider on how you go about continuing your insurance cover while you are away. We spoke to our council who told us as long as the property was vacant, we wouldn't need to pay council tax, so again best to check as it looks like this may vary from 1 council to the next.
