Hi All,

Can anyone help/advise us as to what car we should be buying when we arrive in Brisbane. We used to have a Seat Ibiza in the UK which we really liked. We don't know if we should buy new or used, we also don't want to spend too much cash as well.

We arrive in brisbane on the 31st October, not long to go now. We have a hire car arranged allready so we are ok for the short term.

Please help!!!!!

Thanks

Hi, we too are in Brisbane, we have been here for 10 months. When we arrived we looked all around for a cheap second hand car, in the end we bought a new Kia Rio (only a small car even though there are five of us) it does the job and is cheap to run This was about £7000 or even cheaper if you are buying now with the current exchange rate. My husband has an old Ute he paid around £2500 ish for it and just recently we have bought a very cheap 1994 land rover discovery for around £1500. The 4x4's are popular here although not cheap to fill with petrol. Do think about what you want it for, also bear in mind the car you buy will have a safety certificate (like MOT) and then you are not required to do this again until you sell You do have rego and third party insurance which is covered with your rego This means you will see a fair few old cars but at the same time this might influence what you buy knowing you have not got to MOT/safety check it every year like in the UK. Hope this helps Smith Tribe in Oz

Hi

To be honest probably the best make of car in Australia is the toyota. The most popular seem to be Toyota, Holden (Vauxhall), Ford. Kia is probably the most popular people carrier. Second hand cars are expensive and you could probably pick up a new one for not much more. We are considering selling ours and getting one where we can add the LPG Tank because of the mileage we cover but if you modify a new car you would loose the manufacturers warranty so we aware of this. Also if you do want to have the LPG conversion check before you purchase the car if it is possible.

You are very wise , I have owned Toyota's in the past and you cannot go wrong with one as car brands go!!

Hi Smith Tribe,

Thanks for the very helpful info. Much appreciated. What part of Brisbane do you live in? We have a rental in the Richlands area.

Thanks
