Hot in the summer and pretty drought ridden. Not your picture post card impression of what Australia is like but in reality what Australia is really like! About 2 hours from Albury and 2 hours from Canberra along quite good roads. DS2 was at Kapooka for a little while and the mozzies made a meal of him one Christmas so plenty of fly/mozzie spray. It will probably be nothing like anywhere you have ever lived before but that may not be a bad thing, some of those NSW (and Vic) country towns are quite nice places and have more of a sense of community than loads of others. (Air Con) In that part of the country the weather can get very cold during winter, you will probably be using heating alot more during the year then air conditioning. SarahJane690 Posted September 5, 2008 Share Posted September 5, 2008 Thats very true - i spent 3 (winter) months in Cootamundra (about 100km from Wagga) and it was freezing at night - ice on dog bowls etc but would be really hot by lunch - I went for the "layered look" when i was there LOL! I asking because there has been a big delay with resissue of Labour aggreements for a lot of people in our position. beastmaster2452 Posted September 10, 2008 Author Share Posted September 10, 2008 Ray & Haley, I can't answer that sorry, I got my VISA in March this year and the only thing I had to do again for the ADF was have another medical by a Britsih Medical Officer (nightmare as I was in Afghanistan) as they are only valid for 12 months. I have all the relevant paperwork required, and I cant wait to move, have you pre-booked your removals and flights. My removals turn up on 30th Sep and we then start are long journey. My family and I have opted to stay in Singapore for 2 nights. Have you been giving a posting yet?. Have you spoken to Sue Laurence or Shane Howard reference you Labour Agreement, I guess you Case Officer is requesting this Info, and is the final part of the puzzle. I know a few people who are due to flight out within the next couple of weeks. the problem is that visas have not been issued due to a LA problem which is, if rumour control is to be believed, at the high levels of government to resolve. mean while lots of Brit service personnel making the move are in limbo. you are obviously a lucky one. With regards to booking moves and stuff I don't intend to do anything until the visa is issued. the guys i know in limbo assure me that part of the process is easily sorted. We have been in limbo ever since. Ours is a sorry story but not the worst. Friends of ours had been due to fly out a week after us. At the end of August they received the same information we had had – ‘still waiting for the Deputy Prime Minister’s office to sign off the new LA’ etc. A week ago we received the phone call with good news. The LA had been agreed. Our friends were not so lucky. The job he had applied for, for which he had conditions of service for issued and agreed; a job he had resigned from the RN 12 months ago for….had NOT been included in the negotiations for the new Labour Agreement. He is out of the mob, has kept one of his children from starting at college (anticipating a January start down under), his licence for his MQ has already expired and he is considerably out of pocket. So please, before you apply….make sure your particular skill/specialisation is included in the new Labour Agreement. And good luck to you all.
