Tom Seago
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help with this. I am moving to Perth with my Australian girlfriend in a few months on a Partner Visa, which has been awarded. However, as a Sonographer in the UK, I was looking at doing an overseas skills assessment with ASMIRT to work in Aus. Do I need to do this even though I am able to enter the country on a Partner Visa? If so, would it be better to wait until I am in the country or to post the documents and get the ball rolling before arriving? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Marisawright
I don't know the specifics of your profession. However, for most occupations, a skilled assessment is a requirement to get a skilled visa, and is used by Immigration and no one else. It has no relevance once you're in Australia (this often trips people up). To work in Australia, you need to get the same registration an Australian sonographer would. rammygirl
If your job requires a license to practice here then enquire with that body what you need to do to work. Immigration skills assessments are just that, as Marissa said they just get you a visa.
