Shortened Name on academic transcript and graduation docs

Hi,

Im just starting to collate my documentation for a skills assessment for a 190 visa. 

I’ve requested copies of my academic transcriptfrom my old university but on receiving it I see the name on my student record is a shortened version (preferred name) and excludes my middle name. The name therefore doesn’t therefore match my passport and birth certificate.

I’ve asked for a name change and the transcript and to be reissued but the university said they no longer user the system so can’t retrospectively change names for this period  

Could anyone advise if this is likely to be a problem in my skills assessment or subsequent visa application?

What other official documents do you have that reference your "preferred name".

It looks like you are going to have to pull together a pack that shows an overlap between your full name, preferred name and other identifying facts (such as DOB, addresses, tax numbers, photos) and then get a statutory declaration witnessed by a lawyer (or similar) to explain the discrepancy

I don't think its insurmountable, but it will be some work to resolve

It's not too much of a problem: I have a friend who I'll call Maria del Carmen Jerros Mello (not her real name, just for explanation purpose), there's a heap of permutations of her name and she gets mail and cheques etc issued to any and all of them.  She just has a letter signed by a JP explaining that she can be called any of them (with a list) and shows that whenever she needs to do anything official.

Thanks both. I think first thing I’ll do is ask the uni to write a letter explaining why it can’t be changed. I’ll word it for them and ask for it on University headed paper. 
 

my drivers licence, CV, reference letters and even my signature on all docs is a legible shortened version of my name. 
 

I’ll get that letter written and  signed by a Jp too and submit it, as suggested.

Why not ask the skills assessing authority, as they are the ones who know what their criteria are for this. Without knowing who you are dealing with, no one can give you the definitive answer as to what they want.
