Wayne Maree
Hi there. I am a South African in the process of immigrating to Australia. I lived in the UK from 1999 to early 2001 on a working holiday visa. I got into a bit of trouble during my stay there. I was caught drinking and driving. I spent the night in the holding cells and had to appear in court which I had to pay a fine. I have since received my UK police clearance as requested from the immigration agent and it shows NO LIVE TRACE. Is this a concern? Or will I still be able to receive my skills shortage visa ( 482 visa) Thanking you in advance

If you did then it should be okay (although they will probably ask you for a full PCC report and/or a declaration of the offence), if you didn't tell them about when you applied then it could be an issue as it strikes straight at the issue of "thruthfulness" - you might want to have a word with your migration agent about how best you present this information back to the authorities in Australia
Wayne Maree
Hi. Thanks so much for the speedy response. I have not yet completed the Character form. I will complete the form and declare what I have done with regards to the no live trace. Do you think a supporting letter stating that I am remorseful would get me brownie points? Lavers
Just be honest then at least it doesn't look like you are trying to hide anything. There have been others on here who didnt disclose things as it wasnt a conviction (which it says on the form) only a caution, and they still got there visa. To fail the character test it talks about prison sentences of 12months or more and other things, although it says each case is different. My wife had a caution 9yrs ago which I disclosed in my application, and her PCC came back as no live trace, I uploaded it but hoping that they dont ask for the full report or it's more waiting around. Wayne Maree
Thanks so much for the advice I really do appreciate it. But do you think I should still write a supporting letter showing I'm remorseful?
Lavers
So Wayne I've just had a request for more info of the CO asking for the full police report which luckily I applied for 3wks ago and got the other day. Also my wife has to do a letter stating: * what happened including leading upto the offence and afterwards. * date it happened. * any sentence or fine. So you probably are better to send a letter explaining what and why it happened.

Lavers
Just go on the ACRO website and ask for your full report. Its free and sent to you via email, took a few weeks for my wifes to come through. They will want to see that with a character declaration showing what I mentioned above.
