489 accountant processing timelines

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am currently starting the process for 489 visa as accountant general, currently going through skills test following ITELS academic results. Hoping to have EOI lodged as soon as possible being supported by Visa Bureau (will move to 491 if no grant by nov)

looking at around 80/85 points, been researching states daily, waiting for openings. NSW all seemed to be closed, are they likely to open soon with the changes from 1st July?

what is everyone's current visa timelines and any feedback on regional states? young couple looking to move.

Love diving and the outdoors lifestyle, family live in Sydney but looking to move regional in line with visa requirements.

Be mindful that the occupation of Accountant is over subscribed due to the large number of international students who study accounting in Australia.

Because of this it is subject to pro rata arrangements requiring very high scores.

As per the last published invitation rounds:

Due to high levels of demand, and in keeping with previous years, the below occupation groups will be subject to pro rata arrangements to ensure availability of invitations across the program year.

SkillSelect first allocates available places to Skilled – Independent visas (subclass 189) and then the remaining to Skilled – Regional (Provisional) visas (subclass 489). If all places are taken up by subclass 189 visas then there will be no invitations issued for subclass 489 visas in these occupations.

Good luck with your application but as Raul points out, Australia is absolutely flooded with accountants and has been for some time.  In fact, they've been threatening to take it off the list for the last few years.   So it's always worth a try since you've got such high points, but don't get your hopes up too much.

Looking at what Raul has written, it looks as if you'd be better off going for the 189, since they give all the available invitations to the 189's first, there's not likely to be any left over for the 489's.

Hi Emily, I have also filed an EOI at 80, 85 scores for 489 in April 2019, however I don't see accountant occupation in many regions except for NT and TAS. Keeping an eye on all regions incase there is a change in the list.
