Can you do the electoral role from Australia or do you have to be back in the UK for that     We leave in a few weeks and will be in same boat with no credit history etc!

I know this is a bit off the topic of tea/coffee, but yes you can of you have an address. We were moving to the in-laws so we could use that address. Only issue is its canvasing from Aug to Dec so we won't be added until December 3rd, we applied mid July.

Hard to know which of the bs to vote for these days- none of them are much chop, they are all out for short term gains at our expense.

Nobody gets put on the electoral roll to vote, it's merely a necessary step to obtain credit.

Thanks for the info on mortgages. We spoke with 2 different independent advisors and both said similar but we might try another soon and have another go.

Did you not keep a U.K. bank account open? We used mortgage statements from Aus as well as our statements from our Super (we are in our 50’s) so wanted to be able to show we would have the means to pay a mortgage off early.

Be prepared to show how you have  obtained any cash that you bring over - from a house sale for example as they are very hot on anti money laundering!! Luckily we had all the info available on email from our settlement agents so make sure you keep stuff like that. I would definitely check around. Good luck.
