Pneill
Hi I am asking for my sister if her dad is an australian citizen and lived their most his life but was born in the UK. Can she get Australian citizenship be descent for her and her 2 boys?
Quoll
If her dad was a citizen at the time of her birth and had lived more than 2 years in Australia before her birth then yes she can apply for citizenship by descent but her kids won’t get citizenship. She will need child visas for them if she wants to go to Aus with them.
Pneill
No he wasn't a citizen at the time of her birth or stayed 2 year prior but they moved over their in 1983 and her mum brought her back to uk in 1988. But her dad still lives over their.

Quoll
Was she born in Australia while they were permanent residents? BTW, sorry, I erred, her dad didn’t need to have lived in Aus for 2 years before she was born, I was associating citizenship by descent with him (too tired!). Bottom line, unless he was a citizen before she was born or unless she was born in Australia and parents had permanent residence at the time then, nope, she’s out of luck. His being there has little relevance to her.
