Amber Snowball
How strict are UK customs with dirt/liquids etc on shipped goods? Are they as particular as Aus? I can’t see anything that makes me think they are as strict but thinking about some of my tools/equipment and whether I could clean them enough. I’m sure the shipping company will help but thought I’d pick the forum’s brains. Thanks.

Going both ways we have just done a basic clean. We took motorbikes into Australia and not had them looked at, it just depends who you get on the day to be honest. rammygirl
Assume they are. I recall getting clear guidance when we shipped things back to the UK ove r 10 years ago and I doubt it is less strict now. It didn’t seem much different.

Wasn’t sure they would be so picky with an essentially open border with the EU. Stuff/people on the move all the time. Not sure I’ll be bothered to try and clean things then. Everything is easily replaced I suppose. Thanks for the reply. The gov.uk site just talks about weapons, porn and endangered species! ?
LKC
We didn't have any problems with anything, and I don't recall being told to clean things when we moved back. It wasn't mentioned at all by the shipper. I did have a look at the HMRC site to find out information about the TOR etc before we moved, and as you say it just mentions illegal goods etc.

Maybe I’ll try a scrub up and see how they look.

Not just me then not finding anything about cleaning stuff! Makes me feel better. I think you are the most recent returnee amongst us so that is positive. They seem more interested in VAT! Thanks. I did the clearance myself and a lovely lady from the Customs department talked me through it.
