Aerospace engineering - need to be a citizen?

My husband is an Aerospace engineer. Its on the skilled occupation list, which would suggest theres a shortage. However When looking at jobs, all job specs say you need to be a citizen (for government security reasons, many companies work on army aircrafts). Has anyone got experience finding a job when you are a P R?

Which city are you in? Yes, if want to work in defence on army aircrafts you need to be an Australian national.

If you are from the UK, there are ways where you can get your UK clearance recognised in Australia. However it is difficult, expensive and can only be done on a project by project basis.

You should not assume an occupation is on the list means there is a shortage. For example, my own occupation is still on, but with 40% unemployment rate. I have also seen in the last 18 months members in the aerospace engineering field have to return to the UK due to lack of work.
