Permanent residence for grandson

We recently got permanent residence for our grandsdon, however we were told it would take 18 months, we got his visa in 10 weeks which may seem fantastic but he needs to enter Australia by June this year, unfortunately our house sale will probably not be complete in time and until the house is sold we do not have funds for a holiday to activate his visa, Australia house said the visa must be activated by this date or it will be cancelled, or we could risk appealing after the date, does anyone know what our chances of winning the appeal would be. We had timed it so the 18 months process would fit in, plus you used to get 2 years to activate your visa.

Validation of a visa has always been a max of 12 months and its almost unheard of for the date to be extended - certainly not for selling a house. It would only mean an air fare for him and one adult to go with him and you can come back straight away, no need for holidaying for weeks.

Thanks all, when we got our visas in 2008 we got 2 years to activate but this must have changed, loan might be the only option to activate but didnt really want to get more in debt.
Really? We got ours in 2008 as well and it was definately only one year. How old is he? If he is under two you dont have to pay for his flight so if only one person brought him across even just for a few days wouldnt cost too much.
