Theresa13
We are flying over from 15th December to 30th December to Australia to validate our visa. We did originally intend to come over in July but due to family illness this had to be postponed. Can anyone help me by recommending a place to stay in the Sunshine Coast area over Christmas from 24th - 27th Dec. We have no family in Australia so won't be staying or visiting them so can anyone recommend somewhere friendly where a family of four (2 adults and 2 teenagers) can socialise and experience an Australian style Xmas. Thanks
PatW
Hello Theresa Check caravan parks (which also have cabins for those without their own tent/caravan) on line for the Sunshine Coast, but most will be heavily booked already. If you find one (or a motel), it'll have cooking facilites, fridge, etc. so you can buy in necessary food and have a Christmas on the beach (which to begin with is quite weird but then becomes enjoyable. Pack the hats & sunscreen because you will need them. Stay in the shade as much as possible (we got burnt a few years ago just sitting in the shade on the beach, because of the reflected rays off the sand) and enjoy the water! If you want to, please PM me with other questions.
ramot
I can't help with accommodation, Google Mooloolaba it's very popular at Christmas, and Father Christmas is rowed ashore by the life guards and throws sweets to the children. There are lovely out door carol services, not sure if there will be any so close to Christmas, but Christmas is very different in a hot climate, so embrace the difference, swim, and bbq, be prepared for rain though. As previous poster says try to get booked up asap as it gets very very busy in the holidays on the coast.
JockinTas
You could take a look at this: http://www.sunshinecoastholidayparks.com.au/ As Ramot said, it's the busiest time of year - school summer holidays here so everything is booked up quickly and the prices rise accordingly too. SummerHQ
Hi have you looked at AirBnB? http://www.airbnb.com - I've used many times around the world and it's been great. But as everyone says, expect to pay peak prices, with Christmas and School Holidays everything gets booked up (it's like August time in the UK WITH Christmas on top! crazy) So book sooner rather than later. Airbnb may also get you a nice house as owners go away over the christmas period too and want to make some money off their places
Marisawright
You're going at the very busiest time of year, so accommodation will be very expensive. A friend from Noosa told me that the population of Noosa triples on Boxing Day! If you could possibly go a little earlier, you could potentially save a lot of money. Most people holidaying on the Sunshine Coast are Australians, and they stay at home for Christmas Day and then drive or fly up on Boxing Day. So you'll find many holiday lets and caravan parks are virtually empty in the few days before Christmas, and on Christmas Day itself - and of course, that means their rates are much cheaper too.
