drstu
Hi All, A question from my wife ... We're heading out in November so will be taking the kids Christmas presents with us. We've heard about people getting taxed for importing new items. Does anyone have any experience of taking over Christmas presents ... and is it best that they are not wrapped in the luggage to save the kids the despair of seeing a customs person ripping them open? :arghh: Best wishes. newjez
We took them unwrapped, hidden by clothes, then wrapped them there. Australian border controls love searching people after a 24 hour flight. Don't take crackers.
ali
But the joy of arriving, looking shattered and having an Aussie passport and they take pity on you and wave you through lol.a Agree - don't wrap the pressies and declare any food stuff. dmjg
We always wrap. If customs want a look, fine, just re-wrap the few they open. Most bags are xrayed anyway, they can pinpoint the bits they want a better look at. and, you are allowed upto $900 of new items (maybe more by now) when you come in anyway. That covers your bags, unless you are bringing in gold plated Christmas presents....
