Country Boy
Hi guys, looking at affordable areas for houses and job opportunities and just wondered what Gympie was like? I'm a mechanic by trade so I'm guessing work isn't too tough to find as people always need stuff fixing right?
justcantwait
Hi I don't know what Gympie is like, but we live on the Sunny coast and my hubby has no problem getting mechanic jobs. It is quite hard finding a decent mechanic to fill vacancies at the moment. Hope this helps
calNgary
Gympie is very 'countryfied' but has grown lots and as a good little town centre with supermarkets, shops etc. A good mechanic should be able to find work anywhere . Cal x
Country Boy
Thanks guys, I figured work shouldn't be a problem just waiting for my tools to arrive might be. I like the look of the sunny coast, but not so much the house prices, Noosa looks gorgeous! [emoji3] Do the salaries match the real estate prices there? I have found an independent Porsche specialist on the sunny coast that might be worth an inquiry.

Country Boy
So what is the current going rate per hour a skilled mechanic can expect to see? Does this fluctuate significantly dependant on the area?

Hi mate, if you end up making the move to Gympie, let me know as I'm in the process of considering getting into mechanics as a career change and may need a house mate. Shayne Hi Shayne, I'm definitely heading up that way later this year for a look see. Are you already in the area? If so, what's it Like? Shayne
Hi Shayne, I'm definitely heading up that way later this year for a look see.Are you already in the area? If so, what's it Like? Yes, I'm a long term local here. In my opinion, the area is a bit underrated. It's within an hour of the Sunshine Coast and two hours of Brisbane without the hustle and bustle. There are some nice areas to look at around the place. I'm not sure how easy it is for employment here. I'll be out looking for work as I'm wanting a career change and am helping my mother out with a few medical issues at the moment as well. Country Boy
Less hustle and bustle is always a bonus. I'm heading that way in September so I'll find out soon enough, I'm from a countryside background anyway so big cities are never going to be what I call home. I'm happier with a smaller a community atmosphere. Besides house prices are far more affordable too especially being close to Noosa for days at the beach. Here in the uk I can travel the same distance to be by a poor seaside town with greasy cafe's, murky water and freezing cold winds! Zack
Gympie is a great town, probably the most friendliest towns in Queensland, that i have ever lived in. lost of History. It's a old Gold mining town. The countryside is beautiful, green rolling hills.Reasonably cheap Houses,But then that depends on you and what you can afford.Mechanics here charge arround $80 p/hr No problem getting work,if you know what u are doing. And do the job right the first time.If you want to buy a house i have the best Looking Queenslander on 1/2 acre block for sale soon on the Southside 4570. How's Cambridge? used to work At Cowley Street on the National Express. Lovely cobbled streets, and bike riders that drive you mad? God luck contact me if you want for a chat. Country Boy
Zack, I'll be a little while before deciding to buy, but thanks anyway. Thanks for the insight into Gympie! Cambridge is like just about all the towns and cities in the uk now, far too expensive, failing infrastructure and too overcrowded. Local people can no longer afford to buy property there, some flats fetching way over £500'000!!! It's the most expensive place outside of London and it's spreading.
