  1. I'm not going to have much time to stop off any more than need be as I have to be in Perth ready for a race meeting so it will be more like the cannonball run this time [emoji38]
  2. Thanks AJ! Kinda what I thought from reading the info. Cal I am very tempted to do the road trip I must say, gather a few spares and off I go [emoji2]
  3. I have the rwc from when I purchased it off the dealer in qld but I guess this won't be of any use? Was only done in sept. Just under 2 months ago
  4. So your saying if I haven't owned it for 12mnths or more then it needs the rwc? Normally not needed if owned over this time in WA according to their info page. Is there a period of time like changing over licences before it has to be done?
  5. Hi all, I've just been offered a job near Perth so I'll be relocating from Queensland. My question is how do I change my car rego over when all the info I read says I need to own it for 12months as I've had it only 2months and it's not a new car? Do I wait until that 12months is up then transfer it to WA plates? Thanks in advance.
  6. I would say getting a job without being here is going to be near impossible. They will require you to have tfn, drivers licence etc all sorted. It's not difficult to sort out, just make sure you have the paperwork in order then it's a little bit of a goose chase putting it all together. Probably the toughest part is not having all your tools to get a job with until shipping arrives.
  7. No crocs here it's too far south for them. Seen 2 huntsmen, but no dramas really.
  8. Haha it's pretty good, the farm I'm on is in the bush and off grid. We see the odd snake and spider, but nothing like people make out about it all. They're there for sure, but just require some common sense and appreciation as it's there home too. [emoji4] Gympie is way bigger than that with about 22k population I think. It has three shopping centres/areas, nice coffee shops, quite a lot of supply shops for most things too from rainwater tanks to buying custom 4x4 spares.
  9. I'm not in Gympie itself, but go there for local supplies and shopping etc. Gympie has a lot of facilities, way more than I anticipated. It's a fairly sleepy country town. I'm helping out on a farm out of town until I find something permanent. I'm a mechanic by trade.
  10. No worries, I'm sure you'll be fine. Being determined enough to make a go of anything is the biggest part. I don't know anyone on here that lives there, sorry.
  11. I'm staying near Gympie at the moment and have gained a fair bit of local knowledge from people regarding towns up to Bundy area, I don't think work is a big issue there, where as other towns are struggling a little more like Maryborough. I've always found making connections and networking opens far more doors if you can do that. Good luck with the move.
  12. Hi Bakerz, not yet and I'm still looking. Seems to be quiet unless you want to be in Brisbane. You should be ok coming from a commercial background as several jobs around for that. Most of my experience has been light vehicle, performance and 4x4 work with some truck stuff from years ago.
  13. That's great advice once again Cal! I've applied through hays for the Amberley job, but hays are very slow at even returning calls, yet they were keen to sign me up for migration in their London office in the U.K.! Yes I'm a free agent here so relocating isn't an issue for the right role. I'll take a look on gumtree. Thanks!
  14. Thanks Cal, I've spoken to the main employment agencies and sent out some cv's but not any cold calling yet. I'll give it a whirl, thanks for the advice.
  15. Hi guys, I've been in Australia almost 2months now (on a permanent 189 visa) so I've arranged most things - drivers licence, TFN, Medicare etc etc. Now I'm looking for work opportunities. I'm currently in Queensland, top of the Sunny Coast area, but would be happy to relocate for the right role. My work experience is very vast from commercial Diesel engines to race cars and performance cars. I can forward a CV and references if required. Any pointers would be much appreciated. Alex
  16. Well I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, but I thought I'd drop in an update anyhow. Ive now made it to Queensland, been here almost a month now. Currently staying near the top of the Sunshine Coast (rural) whilst deciding where to head next or look for work - which can be a pain as I have to wait for my tools to arrive before having much to work with.
  17. Zack, I'll be a little while before deciding to buy, but thanks anyway. Thanks for the insight into Gympie! Cambridge is like just about all the towns and cities in the uk now, far too expensive, failing infrastructure and too overcrowded. Local people can no longer afford to buy property there, some flats fetching way over £500'000!!! It's the most expensive place outside of London and it's spreading.
  18. Less hustle and bustle is always a bonus. I'm heading that way in September so I'll find out soon enough, I'm from a countryside background anyway so big cities are never going to be what I call home. I'm happier with a smaller a community atmosphere. Besides house prices are far more affordable too especially being close to Noosa for days at the beach. Here in the uk I can travel the same distance to be by a poor seaside town with greasy cafe's, murky water and freezing cold winds! [emoji38]
  19. Hi Shayne, I'm definitely heading up that way later this year for a look see. Are you already in the area? If so, what's it Like?
  20. So what is the current going rate per hour a skilled mechanic can expect to see? Does this fluctuate significantly dependant on the area?
  21. *enquiry - damn American auto spell correct [emoji38]
  22. Thanks guys, I figured work shouldn't be a problem just waiting for my tools to arrive might be. I like the look of the sunny coast, but not so much the house prices, Noosa looks gorgeous! [emoji3] Do the salaries match the real estate prices there? I have found an independent Porsche specialist on the sunny coast that might be worth an inquiry.
