Obligations to sponsoring state on 489 visa

Hi guys

It would appear that my only route to working in Australia would be on a state sponsored 489 visa. My brother lives in QLD but unfortunately the only state accepting my occupation at the moment is NT. I wanted to know if I did apply for state sponsorship from NT what are my obligations to stay their? Or putting it another way, what would be the consequences if I moved to a different state?

Any help is appreciated.

Matt

Hi Matt

You have a 'moral' obligation to stay in NT

Legally you have every right to say that NT no longer suits you and you want to move to another state

The big question is though, how does that help you down the line

You do sign a statement saying you will commit to NT but it is NOT legally binding

You have a moral versus legal dilemma!

Thanks for the info. When you say how does that help me down the line, what do you mean? As in it could effect my chances of permanent residency?

If you live and work in an appropriate regional area, then you will be fine and it will not impact your PR application.
