BSK1977
Hi Pomsinoz.com! This is my first time on the site and I'm finding lots of helpful stuff. One thing I am keen to learn more about is how facilities management roles compare to the UK. I'm interested in moving to Perth and am currently working as an FM in London and would like to continue in the profession. Any info on the FM industry would be great. Thanks
Bungo
Hi Pomsinoz.com! This is my first time on the site and I'm finding lots of helpful stuff. One thing I am keen to learn more about is how facilities management roles compare to the UK. I'm interested in moving to Perth and am currently working as an FM in London and would like to continue in the profession. Any info on the FM industry would be great. Thanks First things first, do you already have a visa or citizenship? No point researching until you have this. Although to be honest, I cannot imagine that FM would be particularly different in any way. If you do not have a visa already, note that this occupation is not eligible for independent skilled migration, you would need a sponsor. You could be sponsored by an employer if you could find one willing. The other option is state government sponsorship however the only states that might consider sponsoring this are ACT and SA but both have conditions to meet which would include things like job offers, close family in the state or very high points score. Marisawright
FM in Australia is largely outsourced to the big players like Jones Lang LaSalle and CB Richard Ellis. The big banks and the universities still run their own show usually. One of the biggest agencies is Hays. You won't find much FM work in Perth, since all the head offices and big installations are in Sydney or Melbourne and that is where the FM department usually is. In fact, for the big internationals, there's an increasing tendency for the FM Department to be run from Singapore or Hong Kong - making promotion within Australia difficult. Slean Wolfhead
The other option is places like local or state government buildings, or existing hospitals, lots of the systems are the same, so if you have any specialisms in BMCS systems it puts you in a good position. And if you have a good set of ideas on how to save money based on UK experiences, that will be useful in coming years......
