ss9999
Hi All, Recently I got a PR(have been in aus from 2012). I am planning to take a citizenship after one year for me and my children aged 6 years and 3 years. Is the below rule applicable to my children as well: 1. 4 years in Australia, no more than one year absence. 2. absences from Australia of no more than 12 months, including no more than three months in the 12 months before applying. Thanks!! Sri
calNgary
I'm no expert (hopefully one is along soon) but i would imagine that unless your children were on your last visa (the one prior to PR) and had been living here at least 12 mths since 2012, they would have to wait the 4 years. When did the children first arrive here in Australia and on what type of visa? Cal x

My younger daughter born in India 2013, later included her in 457 dependent. In feb 2016 we got PR.
rammygirl
I thought that children under 16 could simply be added to the parent's application without needing to satisfy the 4 year rule.

Thanks!! Sri The residency rule doesn't apply to children (or to be precise the residency of the parent counts not the child). As a result my son got his citizenship at the same time as me despite being out of the country the same amount as his mum (who wasn't able to apply for citizenship until 7 months after me). seabreeze99
Hi everyone, I understand that the citizenship applicant must be in Australia when the decision is made. Does this rule apply to children under 16 who are tagged to their parents' application?
