MrsSmithy81
Hi! I move to Oz with my family next Monday and can't decide on where to live. I love Kiama and Shellharbour. Any suggestions on where is good for kids (7&9)? Thanks x
LKC
Where will work be and what sort of budget do you have for rent? That is probably the most important thing. I don't live in the Illawarra, but we visit down that way often. Kiama and Shellharbour are both lovely. I'm sure that there is an Illawarra thread somewhere. I'll see if I can find it and bump it for you. You could also post a thread in the NSW subforum if you haven't already.
LKC
Here you go http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/new-south-wales/32481-illawara-region-what-like.html. It is quite long (71 pages!) and it hasn't been replied to for a while, but I am sure there is lots of info on there if my memory is correct. If you post on that, some of the contributors to that thread might see your questions.

MrsSmithy81
Thanks! We've not sorted jobs yet so we're flexible at the moment. Does anyone know what Albion Rail is like?

LKC
We've only been through Albion Rail so I can't comment in detail, but I think it is quite near to Port Kembla, which is an industrial area, and on driving through on the main road it seems to have an airport and lots of industrial-like buildings/shops. It probably wouldn't be somewhere that I would want to live. Kiama and Shellharbour are far nicer, although Kiama would be my preference if asked to choose. Shellharbour seems to have lots of new housing estates whereas Kiama is a bit more established with a nice little shopping area. Depends on what your needs are though and where you can find work. vickyplum
My partner is from the area and I know he would say to avoid Albion Park / Rail and Dapto. And probably Unanderra
