STEVEPEACOCK
Has anyone over 50 appied for PR from 457 visa. I am now 5 months away from my 4 years with same employer and wondering what hurdles will be put in our way. I am expecting to require Police references and Medicals, unsure about IELTS test as both myself & wife from the UK. My teenage son will have attended Australian school for 4 years. My company will sponsor me and I do meet the necessary salary requirement levels. What documents can be prepared early and is there anything that might be held up. Wondering if we will ever get out of a rental property and buy our own place in Auss' Also how long do these applications take and what have others paid? Joy Hay
Hi, You won't need IELTS. If you are on a four year 457 visa (and this is your first one with this company), you would need to have started work on the 457 visa on the day of grant, and not taken any unpaid leave, and then lodge on the final day of the 457 visa. If not, you would need to first be nominated on another 457 visa so you can cover the four years required to meet the age exemption. Has the employer kept up with their training benchmark requirements? Joy Edited October 31, 2015 by blossom breaking forum rules
Chortlepuss
I got sponsored for PR from 457 at the age of 46 - this was some time ago when employment conditions were different, but they had to put in a special argument as to why they couldn't get someone younger to do my job (IT consultant). They were a large company and used a big 4 agency who knew how to put the argument together.....

Under current legislation, you would either need to be nominated as a senior academic by a university in Australia; nominated as a scientist, researcher or technical specialist by an Australian government scientific agency; meet the *Fair Work Australia High Income Threshold* for each year over the four year 457 visa period with the same sponsor (as appears to be the case for OP) or be nominated as a medical practitioner and meet certain requirements. STEVEPEACOCK
Thanks for the info' guys, I take it I will need to start making preparations & engage an agent in the New Year. My application for a new 457 has just been submitted as initial visa expires 16th Dec & I did not start work with Aussie employer until 2nd Apr 2012. My salary has been over the Fair Work Australia High Income Threshold level for the full period and will remain so. I will be 57 at the time of PR application. How long is the processing times on these applications ??, although I do understand this can vary greatly, I am hoping to present a well prepared application & hopefully receive a speedy decision ! MaggieMay24
In general, 186 nomination/applications are taking 4-6 months at the moment. I'm not sure if this is any different for an applicant over 50 years old though.
