My husband is a factory manager so we are hopefully going to apply for a 190 visa to SA as its on the CSOL list for there.

code is 133411. He has 13 years experience but his degree is in civil engineering. Can anyone tell me will this be a problem?

I read the job description on the anzsco website, is there anywhere else you get a more detailed one or is that it?

thanks so much

Have you ruled out him applying as an engineer?

I am just asking because there are a couple of rare instances where a degree or qualification is enough to pass skills assessment, regardless of any work expeirence. Accountant is one and I am sure that engineering is another. If he can pass skills assessment as an engineer it might make like a lot easier, those management type roles can be hard to pass skills assessment for. Having said that, if he needs points for work experience, then he would need to use his current occupation.

Thanks Bongo.

I just assumed he wouldn't be eligible as a civil engineer as he has no work experience. As soon as he graduated he took the factory manager job and never got into civil engineering.

Any idea how I could find out?

Engineers Australia is the assessing body - https://www.engineersaustralia.org.au/about-us/migration-skills-assessment

Qualifications alone may not be sufficient and he may be asked to prove continuing professional development. Civil engineers may also need a separate license depending on the type of work.

Thanks will stick with his occupation then.

Do you know if the vet assess website lists any more details on his occupation or is this info only found on the anzsco website?

No really, you should look into this and not dismiss it so quickly. If he can pass skills assessment based on the degree, it would be so much easier for you. It doesn't matter about licensing, that is for work but he doesn't have to work as an engineer when he gets to Australia.

If you go with Manufacturer (133411), then any degree and three years of experience as a Manufacturer is required for Vetassess skills assessment. So that should be ok for you too, so long as he fits the occupation description.

Oh right I thought you meant he needs licenced here. Is the only way to find out by paying for the skills assessment? Would they give you advice on the phone?

I think just follow the links provided above by the other poster and have a good read. There is a full booklet on it. He won't need licencing for skills assessment.

I would explore both the engineer and factory manager options at the same time. Depending on his qualifications EA may take anywhere from 5 to 12 weeks to let you know the outcome. At the same time, I would also pursue the factory manager option.

Start with the points test, he may need to use his experience to get the required points in which case the EA option would be be difficult. Once you figure out the points, come back and post here and you'll get better feedback.

Absolutely look into both. To be honest I was just thinking spend an hour or two reading about the EA one to determine if it is an option, because if it is, it will make life a whole lot easier.

EA is pretty straightforward for practicing Engineers but I've seen a friend's application come back saying they were not satisfied - it's not just qualifications unfortunately but you never know.

Hi all thanks so much for your replies. I took some time as advised and have found that his degree is recognised by EA.

have spoken to a migration agent who confirmed he can go down that route with no experience and would need top marks in ielts to get the 60 points which I'm hoping won't be a problem.

However can any of you answer this? I checked the anzsco website for civil engineer and it lists two specialisations. Does this mean that only people in those specialist roles are in demand and not all civil engineers?

Thanks again

Civil engineer is on the SOL. I cannot see any reference to specialisms on the SOL, which is what matters.

If he can get a civil engineer skills assessment and can meet the points score you are good to go.

I am trying not to get excited until in totally sure I am understanding all this correctly.

I went on to anzscosearch.com and entered the civil engineering code 233211 and selected anzsco info.

There are two specialisations listed Airforce Engineer Officer and Hydraulics Engineer. Does that mean they are only looking them or them as well as civil engineers?

Sorry for being such a pain as I said I really want to make sure I get my head round this before screaming with excitement that my dream could come true!

Anzscosearch is a very handy website, but it is not the immigration website and it is not the SOL.

The SOL is the list of skilled occupations that are eligible for skilled migrant visas.

If you go onto the immigration website and take a look at the SOL you will see civil engineer on there. There is no mention of specialisms, it is there, that is really all there is you need to worry about.

My degree is psychology but I changed career at 30 and had worked in IT for 15 years when we migrated. I assumed I would have to do a RPL to pass a skills assessment with ACS but our migration agent said I could be assessed as a 'Social work professional NEC' and it was literally just sending off my degree transcript. I could still claim the work experience from IT, to be honest until the visa was granted I still was convinced he'd got it wrong!

I was just claiming spouse points though so it could have been different.

Good to hear. If you are using an agent make sure he is MARA registered. When you apply to EA, get assessed for code 233211 as a Professional Engineer. If they sign-off on it then immigration will take their word at face value and you just get the remaining points in IELTS or PTE.

For the most part, telephone advice is not worth the paper it is printed on.

It appears that there might be relevant skilled occupations that have not been mention so far, depending on the daily duties performed.

May I suggest that you consult a RMA for a written assessment?
