Hi All

Dont suppose any one has an idea of when us accountants will be getting invites 70 points and less, from review of the rounds data and threads its looking a bit gloomy for those of us under 70 points. I currently have 65 have just submitted my EOI. Any ideas on when or if i will get an invite? Only saving grace is that I am not in to much of rush over then next few months, to get the application going

The last time a 65 point accountant was accepted was 2nd July. I would say your chances with only 65 points are very slim this year as there is a 5 month backlog in front of you. There is also the risk that next year (July) accountants will not be on the list, they have been threatening to remove them for a couple of years but the accounting bodies have pushed back.

The second round of December results are not out yet but I have seen someone with 70 points in October get an invite, so there is most likely still a 70 point backlog.

Hi, I am only just starting the process now. I am hoping to have 70 points and I am a member of ICAEW too. Slightly worrying to read that accountants might be taken off the list in July. Do I have any chance of getting in? Also how do I do the skills assessment and do I need to do that before submitting my EOI? Thanks!

Yes you would need your skill assessment done before EOI (and your english test if you are claiming english points)

The skill assessment for CAs is very simple compared to most occupations

There is a chance accountants are removed so if you can get your EOI submitted in the next couple of months then with 70 points you should get an invite immediately

Good luck

As I have mentioned in my other post, there are only 900 odd places for accountants left, in Feb 600 were invited so a couple of months might not be quick enough for this financial year.

I'm assuming they drop invites back to lower levels to ensure the ceiling isn't reached early. Who knows ?

I've tried to guess what they would do since the start of this financial year, anything logical and they don't seem to do it! The ceiling was reach early last year.

True

I'm going on the basis that the whole point of pro-rata is to ensure the ceiling isn't reached early but like you say, logic seems to go out the window at times.

I'm getting even more confused with all this, and going round in circles!

I've just realised that my experience may not count. I would get 25 points for age, assuming I can get 20 for English, and I would get 15 for education, I have a maths degree and ICAEW. However, for the last 10 years, I haven't really been working as an accountant, I am actually a management consultant, but specialising in financial management and project finances. Management Consultant is on the CSOL for ACT only, should I go for that one, I'd have 80 points for management consultant I think??

What do they look at for work experience? What evidence do you have to provide?

Can't help you there I'm afraid as I didn't claim any work experience points.

When you apply for your skills assessment you can have your experience assessed at the same time. You may not need to work as an out and out accountant to pass under the 'general accountant' category ?

As far as I know you need to provide contracts, payslips, employer reference if possible.

Someone who had their skills assessed may be able to offer more help.

If there are any doubts, an initial consultation with a migration agent might be worth the money even if you then decide to do it on your own. I decided to do it on my own as not claiming experience made it much simpler.

I provided a payslip from each job, P60s, contracts where I had them still and a statement from my manager at each company, this listed job title, pay, bullet point job description and I also included official job descriptions from the adverts to the job (HR gave me this for current job).

Thank you to both of you. I have just had 1 employer in last 10 years, so that should be quite straight forward. I am still not convinced that my experience will be relevant enough, I will try and get some advice. I would hate to claim the points on the EOI and then have the visa rejected because of it!!!

If you are getting CPA to do your skills assessment they will also assess you on your work experience for free at the same time, their feedback is minimal though and obviously what they say is just guidance as DIBP have final say on work. A migration agent would know for sure.

If you can't get credit for your experience, 60 points is not going to be enough in the accountant category. If you could get to 65 points you may get an invite for a 190 visa with NSW with superior English - does your partner have a qualification that could be assessed to gain an extra 5 points ?

A 190 visa with ACT sounds like it is an option - many people suggest the commitment to the state sponsoring you is not a legally binding one, more of a moral requirement, however you may like to look into that more yourself if ACT didn't particularly appeal to you. The 190 route has a few more hurdles to clear (commitment statement to ACT, proof that jobs exist etc) but it may be your best/only option.

Thanks Maybe Diva, my husband's occupation is on the 190 list for Tasmania only, and just am not sure if he would need a job offer or not to get the state nomination. My work experience is mostly as a project accountant, although this is not in my job title. I am going to ring a few migration agents in the morning.

What would happen if I claimed 75 including my experience, got an invite, but the got downgraded during the visa assessment to 60 points? Would my visa be rejected altogether or could it still pass with 60?

If you are performing duties of a typical project accountant, then there is a big chance that CPA will recognize it as accounting experience. If the person writing the Letter of employment puts in detail the accounting duties related to the project work and agrees to modify your title to something like Management Consultant (Project Accountant) or Management Consultant - Project Accounting, this should be sufficient to point out the nature of the work you performed. And it will not be cheating, it is just adding detail for better clarification. We had to do it here with our resumes as the responsibilities associated with certain accounting titles vary from country to country.

Your application would be refused as with 60 points you would not have received the invite.

Although I have genuine finance experience it seems it is going to be difficult to slot it into any of the accounting categories. It would be too risky to claim it as I would have paid my visa fee by the time a full judgement could be made. So my next option could be for a management or general accountant 190 without experience in NSW, NT or Tasmania. Has anyone any idea which of these states are keenest or quickest for accountants? I would only have 65 points unless I went for 489 visa I think?

Going by recent invites you would likely need 65 points before including the 5 you get for state nomination to get a NSW invite. That could obviously change in the coming months.

I looked into NT and remember reading somewhere that NT don't like giving out 190s as people could get the visa then never bother going to NT. For that reason they may only give out 489.

Not sure about Tasmania.

Is you 190 with ACT as a management consultant still a possibility?

Hi thank you for your reply, 190 for management consultant is still a possibility, the skills assessment is with vetassess though, which seems more complicated than a straight forward ICAEW to ICAA. But yes I could still look at that one, ACT would want me to prove that there are actually jobs available, some of the ones I saw wanted citizens only because of government security clearance so that could also be quite tricky!!

Your ICAEW would pass the assessment for external auditor so that would be another option to look into. I was lucky to get a NSW 190 invite as external auditor with 60 + 5 points back in November but I don't think any 60 pointers have been invited since.
