Sheeny89
Hi all Husband has had a lot of interviews and landed a job as a software developer, flights are booked for 4 weeks' time. I, on the other hand, am worrying a little as to whether I will find work or not. Most roles advertised seem to be for HR Manager level - whereas my background is more remuneration & benefits (specialist) and generalist HR (Coordinator/Admin level) Has anyone else experience of picking up a HR role in Melbourne? and do you have any suggestions for job hunting? Thanks! Hannah

partnership
Keysan I am currently looking at HR jobs and 457 sponsorship but I seem to be the same in that I don't fit into the category. My experience would be very much int he area of employee relations (but not in Australia), supporting staff through coaching and mediation, training and development etc. Don't suppose your company has anything like that? kevsan
Dont recall seeing anything like that, and i dont think there are looking at sponsorship at the moment, however it is a global IT company, so if you have a look at the usual suspects and check out their job boards you might have some luck

VERYSTORMY
I am assuming your husband has a 457. Are you not also on that visa?
partnership
No Verystormy - I just tagged onto the thread when i saw Kevsan's post. I am actively looking at getting 457 sponsorship to go over there but find the different types of HR jobs confusing.
VERYSTORMY
No Verystormy - I just tagged onto the thread when i saw Kevsan's post. I am actively looking at getting 457 sponsorship to go over there but find the different types of HR jobs confusing. HR jobs are pretty thin on the ground and with both the oil and gas industry and the mining industry having very tough times and haven made lots of redundancies, it makes it even harder. Do also be VERY aware of a previous post I made to you about your age. A 457 is only a temporary visa. To gain permanent you would need the employer to sponsor and if over the age of 50, you would need to be earning over the threshold (about $130k). If this isn't the case then you would face, sooner or later, leaving Oz. However, there is then negative impacts when you arrive back in the UK. partnership
Thanks Verystormy. I am aware from your previous helpful advice that it is temporary. I would hope that by then my son would be in a position to sponsor me (though I know this costs). Even if that didn't come to pass I am prepared . If I was going on a 457 I would probably have taken early retirement here with an okay pension. At this stage I am exploring options without incurring huge costs.
