Perth to Brisbane - Western Suburb recommendations!

So the time may be approaching for us to leave Perth and head over East. We've given it a good shot (4 years) but it's time for something new.

Hubby has a job opportunity in Ipswich, we know nothing of the area and the surrounding suburbs so wondered if there were any helpful souls that could point me in the direction of some nice suburbs that I can attempt to google to death!

I will need to work as well, so should probably aim to have a half decent commute into the CBD if that's where I end up working (although will be on maternity leave for the next 8 months).

We are a young 30's couple with an impending newborn, would like to live somewhere with a bit of 'life' to it - so cafes, restaurants, shops but also will need facilities for schooling and for me to find some socialising with a baby. We've done suburbia in Perth and find it lacking.

We'd be renting initially for 6 months and then looking to buy. We'd like not to spend a fortune, in an ideal world would like something requiring not much work (did the total house renovation thing in Perth and not sure I'm up for it again...), with a pool for under $700k (but ideally $500-$600k if we can find something that ticks the above boxes).

Springfield lakes is lovely and is growing every day, i've watched it grow from a little estate to basically a 'town' with everything you need including good schools.

If you want more land /acerage take a look at Greenbank and New Beith another growing community -

On the other side closer to the city you have Sinnamon Park, Westlakes, Jindalee, Mt Omaney and Jamboree Heights that are all nice suburbs and worth a look.

Hope this helps a bit , narrowing down suburbs is a tough job and the best way to check them out is to drive around, you will hopefully find somewhere that just 'feels right' and gives you access to everything you need.

My advice would be to live as far away as is practical from Ipswich, many of the surrounding areas are nice although do have an instant town feel about them. Many of the areas already listed are quite nice and have all the facilities you could want. It is pretty dry and not very green a lot of the time but you wouldn't be a million miles from Brisbane and other areas.

Great, thank you. Certainly gives me a starting point on where to look!

I think renting will help, as we don't want to jump right in to a suburb without knowing what it actually 'feels' like to live there - and will certainly be doing a reccie before we commit to moving anyway.

Yeah, the closer to Brisbane you can afford the better lifestyle will be. Will be against the flow on the commute so that won't matter.

Corinda, Oxley, Sherwood, Graceville are really nice areas - Corinda and Oxley could suite your budget. There are loads of awesome parks in the area for kids and a great outdoor pool for summer. There are loads of coffee places + restaurants even a little Cinema. There is really only two pubs but they are all right on the train line so you can get into the city and back really easy. For Ipswich - five minutes drive and your on Ipswich Road/or get the train there. Would certainly give them a visit!
