Phil & Vikki
We were thinking about it the other day and wondered if many people have taken back with them, less than what they came out with? When we came out here, we brought everything, including what felt like the kitchen sink. Left most of it in the boxes they came out with and have just packed them in the garage. A few weeks ago, we had a big sort out of the stored boxes and throw a fair bit away. So the old saying is true, if you have not used it within the last year, it is probably not needed. So with this in mind if we went back, we think we will be shipping less back with us, than what we came out with. This would hopefully be less on shipping costs. We would also have a look at what we have and possible throw out a bit more. Is this something that anyone who has moved back to the UK found? That you took less back with you than what you brought out? Or did you end up taking more back with you?
Time2Go
When w came here we brought the entire contents of a large 3 bed house in the UK. A full 20 ft container, and it was full! When we go back we are taking a lot less. We have sold most of the things we brought here with us, and now have a very minimal amount to ship back. We have been quoted between $2000 - $2900 for our belongings. So yes we are taking a lot less back.
Bungo
W came over with a 40 foot container adn went back with a 20 foot one, albeit a very full one! We got rid of sofas as we were just ready for a change and also one king size bed and matching furniture as it was just a bit oversized for the house in UK and also we just wanted to change. We got rid of some other smaller pieces of furniture too, but those made up most of the volume.
Huggy75
We're taking more but still only in a 20ft container. When we came out the container was only half full, but this time we think it will be full - we do have an added child and all the furniture/toys etc., that comes with that :-) I've been trying to sell stuff but most people don't want anything unless you're giving it away and the stuff we have are still good as new so not willing to give away just yet. Phil & Vikki
That is the kind of thing that we are thinking. We are looking around and we looking at all the stuff that we can get shot of. There are a few things that we brought out, that we just have not used in a long time or just do not need anymore. Yes it will be a smaller container back. Thanks for confirming what we thought was the case.
sithewindows
Could I ask who you have quotes from? We are looking at options and think we will sell or give away a lot of things. Main reason is cost of transport and then possible storage problems in UK. TIA

That seems to be the thing to do thought throw it away or sell it to cut down on the costs of transporting things back. There are certain things that you want to ship back, but things like clothing, furniture and the majority of white goods may not may not even make it on the boat. TIA We are using Overseas Packers & Shippers, they are holding our things in Australia for $16.50 each week until we are nearer to having a house in the UK. Once we get a house we'll ask them to send the stuff a couple of months before completion, hopefully to prevent needing storage in the UK.
