  1. Hi, we were told we had to arrive 5 days either side of the dogs. Its a new rule apparently and some companies are not fully aware. Something to do with whether they pets are classed as pets or commercial. Can make it more expensive. JetPets offer 1 nights free board, which we accepted. Allows us to get the house cleared without them around etc. You need to check with the shippers re the rules on your arrival and the pets into the UK.
  2. That is a good deal, we dealt with JetPets in Brisbane. They have been really good so far. Picked up a few issues on the vets paper work which could have been a disaster, but all good now.
  3. We have paid just over $6000 for 2 large dogs with JetPets. They have been really good. Includes everything at the other as well. WE also had the travel crates delivered 5 weeks before they travel so they get used to them. One is 10 and the other is 3. We are of course anxious but we have everything crossed. They leave about 6 hours before us next week and arrive at the same time into Manchester. As has been said they do sleep most of the time.
  4. Hi We are in the same situation, car on finance, can't sell, been trying for 3 months and reduced it a lot. I have scoured our agreement and it states we can hand back if we can no longer pay the loan. As has been stated the debt cannot be chased back to the UK. As our car is worth more than we owe I am sure that the dealer will make money on it when I hand it back. It is in better condition than when we bought it. I think the problem here is a general malaise in the economic conditions. We have sold a fair bit but not for what it is worth and will be giving stuff to charity as well. There really is not much money about for people to spend at the moment. It is what it is. As long as they agree to your proposal to hand back I wouldn't give it a second thought. And even if they don't what can they actually do?
  5. Hi I was only asking if as a non resident would I be taxed on my super when I accessed it. As has been said citizenship is irrelevant to the discussion, I was looking at information for non residents when super is accessible. And yes all pensions have to be declared in the country you reside, as does all income derived from overseas. In response to The Fisheys, I have worked and paid my taxes since the day I arrived here, and I expect nothing in return from those payments, never have and I never will. You can have them with pleasure. Thanks
  6. Hi Yes Kiwis are treated the same as citizens and PR holders, although we cannot access a multitude of things here as the visa is classed as temporary?? In any case I will be cancelling the insurances as a first step once we leave in August. as for a new fund I will start looking now. I am off work now due to a work accident, and no Super will be paid by Work Cover. Thanks for the advice thus far. Another question is how much tax will I have to pay when I am able to access the Super at 60 years of age. I will be classed as non resident I suspect. Thanks
  7. Thanks Andy We are not citizens or do we have actual PR. But as Kiwis we are in a dilemma. We have dual nationality both Kiwi and British but have spent most of our lives in the UK. I have spoken to my fund and they were very helpful. It would appear that I can reduce the fees etc and still continue paying into the fund while we are back in the UK. This is only possible through Bpay. I am unsure as to the tax implications and looking forward to when I can access my super, as I will be a non resident at that time. Thanks
  8. Hi We are leaving in August 2015, and I have accumulated a decent amount in a super fund. As I cannot access the monies, I am looking for a very low fee fund where I can park the money until preservation age. My current fund is ok, but the returns are poor. It has only grown by my contributions this year. It is a shame we cannot take it with us, I would have thought the Australian Government would have enjoyed a decent cash injection from the thousands in tax that is withheld in some cases, being applied to all people who leave and never want to return. That's another discussion altogether. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks
  9. I totally agree. Gumtree is painful. The questions we are asked are unreal. We describe things accurately, provide dimensions and then get asked will it fit is such a cars boot?? No shows are common as are the scam texts and emails. What we don't sell will be going back with us. We have agreed a total with the movers that can be adjusted downwards if we sell. We have sold some items. Unfortunately we now have no fridge or lawn mower!!! But we are seeing it all as the start of a new adventure............hahahaha
  10. For me the best time is when you are ready to go. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Currently it is pouring down here on the Sunny Coast, damp and miserable. The weather isn't a factor for me. Job wise I don't foresee the time of year being a factor. Just start looking when you are ready.
  11. We have used Chess. Cost about 2000, for a shared container. We are not bothered on the time it will take, just the professional packing etc. We are slowly selling stuff but it is a struggle, no money about and people are after brand new for second hand prices. If it comes to it we will take back unsold items as well. Biggest problem is vehicles. Won't be taking them back but no one interested at all. Listed our things on Gumtree Sunshine Coast. Oh well it is what it is.
  12. Hi I can certainly understand your feelings. We are taking 2 dogs back with us. One made the trip 8 years ago and is now heading back. The other we got 2 years ago. There has never been any question about us taking them back. From Brisbane it is costing us $6300 to Manchester. Somehow we have found the money. It is of course a very personal decision, one I do not envy anyone of making. As an aside we did leave 2 very old dogs when we came here. They lived for a few more years with family. One missed us and always got excited when he saw a 4x4 like we had pull up outside the house. Go figure! I was heartbroken when we passed. The other dog lived to 17 and just feel asleep one day. Again that was heartbreaking too. And yes I wish we had brought them both here. But as I said it is a personal decision. One only you can make. Best of luck and whatever you decided it will be for the best reasons.
  13. Hi We get the UK Passport pack sent here by family. Fill it in, the photos are fine, just make sure they suit the UK requirements. We then send back to family, they send to the Passport Office and send back to family address. Then sent to us. Last time it took 4 weeks. So yes it can be done.
  14. Thanks. We feel that it is now or never for us. We are in our late 40s' and have already started the job search despite not going back until August this year. At first we were reticent about our prospects but having looked on various jobsites and read so many positive comments we really do feel that for us at least it will be the right decision. I am not going to be negative about Australia, suffice to say that it does not fit with our future goals and aspirations. Good luck to everyone making the long trip home. PS I hope England win the Ashes and the Rugby World Cup this year!!!
