Medicals - Gilbert's syndrome - specialist report?

Hi,

We've been asked to go for medicals for our 189 visa and my partner has Gilbert's syndrome. She was diagnosed a number of years ago. It has no effect on her day-to-day life, infact the NHS website says it's a harmless condition.

The Spire hospital website states that we need to bring along with us, "Where you have a known medical condition, any existing specialist reports".

Does she disclose this during her medical? Where can she get a specialist report from (if needed)? She has a print out from our GP showing that it has been diagnosed with a few comments, as a GP would enter onto their system.

You are required to declare any medical condition, irrespective of of it requiring treatment - it is a medical condition and therefore should be disclosed, My son and I both had undergone renal investigations we were asked to provide information on: the condition/diagnosis, any treatment or investigations and prognosis of the condition, I got letters from both our consultants.

It may be worth asking your GP to write a letter confirming when the diagnosis was made, that it requires no treatment and that is not expected to cause any difficulties and take this along to your medical. If they want to get further information or have you see a specialist they will request you do so.

Hi

My husband ans I both have Gilbert's syndrome. Neither of us disclosed this at our medicals because it doesn't cost the health care system anything. There is no treatment required.

To be honest that doesn't matter, you have a condition that you have not disclosed on your medical form and at the medicals - you will have signed the medical form to say that all the facts are true (which they're not), whilst it will probably go undetected, you made a false declaration when signing your medical forms.

We didn't mean to fib about our conditions, just never gave it a thought. It's harmless and common like living with a mole... I don't think we pointed out every one of those either.

I was just giving some advice from my own experience. Our Dr's didn't give us any information about Gilbert's so I assumed we wouldn't be able to get or need a specialist report, actually no I didn't even think about it at all.

I sometimes get thrush too, is that a medical condition I should have disclosed...

Ali you've come across as being pretty mean. you're comments have kind of put me off trying to help people on this forum. I have a thin skin as do many people who are also put off giving their opinions.

It's a shame people can't all be nice to each other.

itegoa I work in a hospital where I just nipped and asked the Dr's about what to do. They all said it's nothing and not to bother.

Your choice of course, wouldn't take any more than the GP letter though. Good luck with the medicals and the move.

It wasn't my intention to come across as mean, as i'm sure yours wasn't to come across as sarcastic in your reply - Just pointing out that any medical condition/disorder that someone has should be declared - I have haematuria which had been investigated and found nothing, no treatment, no cost to Australia ... but was advised to disclose it and provided the necessary documentation to the panel Dr. at the time of medical.

There's nothing mean about pointing out the fact that you've made an incorrect statement on your application documents. You're fortunate that it's extremely unlikely to have any ramifications for you. Better to point these things out rather than having other people with more serious conditions assume there's nothing wrong with failing to declare their medical conditions.

Thanks for all the advice. We've all ready said "no" to all the questions on the medical questionaire. Next step is to phone to book an appointment. We'll take the doctors records print-out and any report we can manage to get off them though. I hope this will be ok with them!

The problem with saying nothing is wrong with you and you have no medical condition when you actually do ,is that, if for any little reason it is picked up on, Immigration may think you lied and thus may think you have lied about other things, hence no matter how small an issue it is always best to mention it on your application.
