Visa for our adult son

Hi All,

We have lived in Australia for 7 and a bit years now and love it.

Our adult son (who wasn't on the our original visa) and his girlfriend want to move out here now too.

Our question is, can we sponsor him and what visa (if any) does he have to apply for?

They don't have a skill at the moment, but they are willing to study.

Can anyone help us out?

Thanks

Kent and Julia

There is very little value in family sponsorship and in any case, it still requires the person to qualify for skilled migration. If neither of them are currently in an occupation on the skilled list, then one of them needs to retrain and then this is something they can look into in the future.

If one is going to study, they would be better doing it in the UK as here they will pay international fees and there are very few courses that will allow them to apply for PR afterwards. The risk of course is that there is no occupation can be guaranteed to still be on the list by the time they are ready to apply and most occupations require post qualification experience for 2-3 years. But, it is likely to be the only way of obtaining a visa
