Bridgeman
I have looked on the Queensland government site and it seems a bit confusing. From what I can see I can only drive for 3 months on my WA licence. Is this correct? We are looking at going over there and spending some time (up to a year) to see whether we want to settle there. Does this mean I have to apply for a Queensland licence after 3 months and do I need to give up my WA licence? If so what happens if we want to visit family in WA for extended periods? Are we not allowed to drive after 3 months on a Queensland licence? It's all very confusing and I find it a bit silly as it's still the same country. Que Sera Sera
If you're on a temp visa then you don't have to swap but on PR it's 3 months not sure about the Queensland question.
Bridgeman
We are PR. Yes I thought I had understood correctly. Seems a bit weird when we don't know whether we will be staying permanently.
NicF
Have a look at this https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/licensing/driver-licensing/overseas/transfer/index.html. It looks like you need to change your license after living in Queensland for three months.

We get numerous travellers passing through True, you wouldn't be able to get a Queensland license if you didn't have a permanent address in Queensland anyway. However if you no longer have a place in WA and are in a long term rental in Queensland then you would be considered to be residing in Queensland. It might be worth noting that if you have more than 6 weeks left on your interstate license you get the same length of Queensland license at no charge.
